......or is this a budget buildup? Your local exhaust shops may have 4" pieces of pipe.

im not familiar with the upr intake but i know about the andersone power pipe and just dont want to spend $250 on something that has less then $50 in parts. plus its always rewarding to make something yourself, especially when your making it to save some good money.
ill have to give the local exhaust shop a call.

Do you have a mandrell bender??????If not it want be worth it because you are going to restrict the flow around the bends

I just installed the UPR 4" boostpipe and actually noticed about a 3lbs of boost difference. I got it for $99 and it was really easy to install. I tried making my own intake pipe but it didn't work that well and was a pita to make. The UPR pipe was worth every penny.

Try Jon, he is awesome to deal with and will treat you right, tell him Rick91GT sent you.

He has starights, 45's, 90's, etc and almost any size. Once I fgure out my blower pipes with the Air to Water intercooler I'll be calling him....plenty of good references for Jon. I have seen the stuff first hand and it is very nice.

The UPR pipe is nice, I would say NEAR identical to a AFM, I have used a few of them on the fox bodies and they are hard to beat for $99, complete with rubber connectors and clamps. They say it will fit a 94-95 but that requires a ton of cutting.

I went to the local truck garage and got two 4" Dia. peices with a 90 deg. bend in them for 18 bucks and then cut and fit the peices myelf. had the speed shop weld it up for 10 bucks.

bob that looks great. what radias bends are those? one more question on the matter, what is the actual difference in hp wise in 3# gain from the pipe as compaired to 3# gain from a pulley swap? is it just that the extra boost is made without speeding up the sc? or is there another penefit?

First i used just the 90 deg. bend sections of the pipes. Then i cut away equal slices on both bends in pie shaped cuts with my compound miter saw and a metal blade. Once the peices made a nice smooth bend when put together, i then fit them in the engine bay, made a few more cuts and then had it welded up. I ordered a 4" to 3.5" reducing silicone hose from Hose Techniques.
As for your second question, I dont think there is a difference in hp between the 2 methods, but getting an increase in boost from a pipe means that the charger is working more efficiently without changing the pulley. Ive heard that if you have say an 8lb. pulley and 3" inlet you will probrobly see 7 lb. of boost on a guage. Then people put the power pipe on and now there making 9lbs. of boost. going to a 4" pipe makes it much easier for the charger to suck air in at a faster rate. Thats why people see a boost increase with a 4" pipe. I have a 6 lb. pulley on mine and at 5700 rpms im already making 6 lbs. of boost. I ran it to the rev limiter the other night in 3rd gear one time and the boost guage read 7lbs.
