Going To Pickup 90 Gt This Weekend - Likes/dislikes

Unless something is terribly wrong with this car, I'm buying and going to pickup a 1990 GT this weekend.

One lady owned the car from 1990 up until 2012, when the guy I'm buying it from purchased the car. When the lady was done with the car, she allowed her husband to make a bunch of upgrades to the car. Here's the list, tell me what you like and dislike about what he did:

-Vortech V3 sci supercharger (installed by current owner - around 100 miles on it)
- Cobra Intake (Upper and Lower)
- BBK 70 mm Throttle Body
- Trick Flow Twisted Wedge Aluminum Heads
- Crane Cams 1.70:1 Cobra Roller Rockers
- 1 5/8" Bassani Equal Length Headers
- Bassani X-Pipe with Cats
- Dynomax Ultraflo 2 ½" Cat Back Exhaust
- 3.73 Gear Set
- 17 x 9 Cobra Wheels - 245/45ZR17 Goodyear Eagle HP tires
- Tremec 3550 5 speed transmission
- FMS 24 # Injectors
- 75mm Pro-M Mass Air Meter
- 190 lph Walbro Fuel Pump
- FMS Cobra Valve Covers
- Steeda Tri-Ax Shifter
- Steeda Strut Tower Brace
- Tokico 5-way Adjustable Illumina Shocks and Struts
- Steeda Sport springs.

Fuel system is going to be a little skimp unless its seeing very low psi.
Which is fine, still sounds like it'd be a great little cruiser. Other than that and the cobra intake being a bottle neck (depends on which tfs heads) I don't see anything I don't particularly like.

Sounds great IMO, I would probably take it to a tuner to make sure those larger injectors are firing well enough. Don't want it to go lean.

Tannerc - What fuel system upgrades would you suggest?

Steeda - Are you concerned about the seller's motive or just surprised somebody would do that?

These guys are already hitting on it but 24# injectors would necessitate the use of an FMU in most boosted apps. Check to see if it has one.

FMU's and 190LPH Walbro pumps do not make good bedfellows. The 190s tend to bypass internally at or around 60 psi. This is not a good situation to be in when the FMU is commanding more at full boost.

Were it me... I'd be installing 42s and a 255L pump with digital tuning. If you plan to run the FMU for a while then at minimum, you need to swap out that pump as it is not a good mix when ramping up fuel pressures.

Lean that combo out just a little bit because the pump by-passed and you can guess what happens next....

And this. I'd put a 255L in it, 42lb injectors, get it pro tuned, and toss that Cobra intake on CL after I replaced it with a TFS intake.

It has a FMU. If I chose to run it for awhile, what should I swap the 190L for, the 255L?

Yes... you want a Walboro 255L HIGH PRESSURE pump for use with an FMU.

The only difference between the high pressure and normal pump is that the high pressure pump is better at keeping fuel volume up as pressure increases.

Both. That's a lot of time and money put into the engine to be used for 100 miles, and then you turn around and sell it? He'll never recoup the money from the blower in the sales price so it just seems a bit odd to me. If you go check it out, make sure you do a compression test on the engine, and that everything else checks out.

I wouldn't romp on the throttle with the current fuel system. Hopefully the owner hasn't either. I'd swap out for bigger injectors, ditch the FMU and take it to get tuned right away. I've been through this before. Got a little nuts before the tune and had to strip it down to the block, not fun. Do it right the first time.

heck ive got 42's on my na car. no way id run 24's with any power adder, fmu or not. New injectors are cheap enough, especially considering you can sell the current stuff to get closer to even!

What's ideal compression for this setup in your opinion (6 lbs boost)?

So far what I've gathered is:

- At minimum upgrade the 190L to 255L (high pressure) fuel pump
- Best setup is swap out the 24# injectors for 42#, in addition to the fuel pump change. Ditch the FMU and get the car tuned.

I'm hauling the car back in a trailer, so if damage hasn't already been done, the first thing I'll do is make these changes. Plus change out the clutch.

A few other questions I still have:

With all the mods (pre-SC) that the original owner made to the car, he should have also had the car tuned, right?

Will a Stage 1 clutch handle this HP?

Without doing a compression test, are there any other ways I'd be able to tell if the engine has been damaged?

I'm running a 75 MM MAF on my NA set up. So if I were to ever boost my car, I'd be stepping up to 80 MM or larger. It's something to look into, although, it's not a necessity.

I picked the car up on Saturday. Plan to do a compression and leak test then have it tuned. Anyone want to give their guess/estimate on what the potential HP might be? I really don't have an educated guess.
