I'm looking to buy some long tube headers for my 04 GT and probably an X-pipe at the same time. I've searched this board, as well as others, and havent found EXACTLY the answer I'm looking for.

What is a good/quality/well priced set of long tube headers?? As of right now, it looks like I'm leaning towards MAC. Those good or not?

Also, what X-Pipe would bolt up to those headers? I've been looking at SLPs catted x-pipe but their website says they bolt up to SLPs long tubes, but may not bolt up to others. Anyone have SLPs X-Pipe with a different brand of long tubes that bolted right up??

Also, on the subject of cats, I may or may not go back with them so if you have any suggestions of non-catted X-Pipes, I'm open to those too. I'm leaning towards the SLP X-pipe because I could easily put them in if I wanted them.

Thanks in advance for any help.

if you are broke bbk long tubes and dr gas off road X. a crowd favorite and good on the wallet. I personaly (in about 3-4 months) will be getting the SLP long tubes and catted X with the Loud Mouth 2 catback. it will cost a bit more then the BBK, but from what i have read the fitment and quality is what i will be needing.

Mac, From what i have heard (not from personal experience), has at times had some fitment issues on the mustang. someone will correct me if i am mistaken, but i do remember reading that on here. do a search on MAC and see wat you find.

hooker headers or kooks to slp x

that or the slp to dr gas/ slp x

the only issues are the bolt patterens on the flanges to the mid pipe

im personally thinking about getting kooks or the slp and mating them to the prochamber

I just installed bbk longtubes and a bbk x pipe, it sounds good and it was affordable. I dont like slp stuff, it seems like good quality, but its way overpriced and I remember it was all overpriced for the camaro stuff also.

I JUST started looking into BBK today. I'm starting to lean towards them. Do you have any soundclips or pics or anything of yours??

900+ for a set of coated headers is ridiculous, I cant imagine the quality is worth the extra 500 dollars. I remember I bought a set of jet hot longtubes for my z28 for 530, those were GREAT quality and they didnt cost 900 dollars.

I got my stuff from summit. Ive had nothing but great experiences with them. I ordered 2500 dollars worth of stuff there for my z28, but had to return it and they where helpful with everything...I also dont know all the stang sites out there because I am still new to this.

Kind of what I was thinking. It'd be nice to have a comparison.........kind of like the one I've seen on this site in the FAQ Sticky with the throttle body/plenums.

One of the reasons I went with the SLP's. Seems to me that the ball socket flanges on the "cheaper" headers cause turbulence that could only slow down the exhaust flow and lessen the scavenging benefit of long tube headers. The more expensive headers all use straight through connections to the X\H pipe. Does anyone know any better? Experts? Am I just talking out my @&&?
