Good Oil Pressure?

Well I recently replaced my A/F gauge with an oil pressure gauge, and I searched for what a good number is and 50 sounds right.

When I turn on the car it is just above 55 and when she is hot and idleing it never goes below about 45. Is this good, because some were talking about how they got a 12 psi hot idle and others a 30, but 45 is up there.

/adam/

A general rule is 10 PSI per 1000 RPM (but this doesn't always apply).

The stock 5.0 Has a pressure release at 60PSI

It's recommened that you have at least 30PSI warm at 2000 RPM.

I cant figure out how you see so little pressure delta. That is almost surreal unless you run GL5 in there. :D

I dunno....it is an ELECTRIC gauge though. Of course the stock sender is unhooked so would or can the car do something if it is being told that there is no pressure, if it even tells the comp that  I am also running 10W40 oil....if that matters much

Don't worry dude, your oil pressure is outstanding. In fact, if that really is the stock pump, then this thread has renewed my faith in the Ford oil pumps.
You probably could get away with using a lower hot viscosity oil, but you probably would not feel a power gain with it so why bother? I think you are doing well.

If the computer was going to do something about seeing no oil pressure form the stock sending unit, it would kill the motor. No way would Ford put this feature in a passenger car, it's way too dangerous.

:OT:
By the way love the taillights. Very subtle and very retro. I have always felt a little jipped that the fox bodies had so few of the design cues from the first 'Stangs.

Adam, that pressure is almost unbelievable to me (not the numbers, but the lack of pressure drop) - certainly nothing to worry about, if accurate.

I would note that some car makers do use the OP sensor in series with the control side of the fuel pump relay. So if OP drops, the fuel pump shuts down. GM has been known to do this. Stangs definately dont do this, as Jason said.

with a freshly rebiult motor and a stock-replacment oil pump my car holds 60 psi (idle) at running temp and 75-85 (driving around)

and today was the first time that i drove the car after i rebuilt the motor and i blew the oil-presure line ...... now i have a puddle of oil setting in my floor board

and bytheway: it held 15 psi befor the rebuild (186k)

75 psi would blow something. It sounds like the pressure valve (a spring actually) in the pump did not work, or was not installed properly when the core was built?

That has to be tough to clean out of the carpet.:(

Sorry to hear that,
Let us know where you go with it.
