Ok my local muffler shop is going to put on new pipes from the cat back, turning into a y pipe, then dual tailpipes. They are all stainless steel. They do great work i know from expeirience, they said they could do it for 250 min, plus 2, 12' cherry bombs my dad is requiring me to get. is that a good deal? every other muffler shop in the area wanted like 350 - 400. my dad and my neighbors claim 250 is way over priced.

I would find it real hard to believe that a shop will weld up an all stainless exhaust for $250...and why in the hell do you want cherry bombs!?

Dynomax thrush what? super turbo? There's a pretty big difference between a turbo muffler and a cherry bomb.

the thrush glass pak is just a straight threw cherry bomb design. I have them on my mustang II, they sound great, but i dont know how quiet, or good sounding they are gonna be on a 4cyl. But i guess for $13 a muffler, you can't beat that.

Well I suppose that if you like the sound of a 2.8 with cherry bombs then you will be totally satisfied with them on the 2.3. Personally it would be about as pleasing as fingernails on a chalkboard to me but to each his own. I mean hell, there are plenty of guys out there that think a Honda with a fartcan sounds good so everybodys perception is different. I would probably go with something like a cheapo turbo muffler such as those Raptor turbos at autozone for $20 before I would do glasspacks. And as far as the pipes...if the guy is really going to do a complete SS exhaust for that price then its a steal. I paid quite a bit more than that for a custom bent dual setup on my SuperCoupe and it was just your standard aluminized stuff.

I started my 2.3 without a muffler once...my craftsman tractor sounded better. I would think a glasspack would sound more ricey than a turbo but I'm just guessing.

a 2.8 with a 4brl and a huge cam dosen't sound anything like a ricer. Every person who asks me about the car without looking under the hood thinks its a v8. ask around on the mustang II board, find somebody else with a 2.8 and the same setup and they will tell u the same thing.

Getting a little OT, I have a 2.8 in my '84 Ranger. I'm guessing yours has the Duraspark setup rather than the crappy feedback carb like my truck. How's it run? Does it pass emissions okay? Have you ever taken it to the track with the current mods? I finally passed emissions today with my truck, so I'm planning on keeping it for a while now - considering a Duraspark conversion, and maybe a bigger carb.

I've never been to the track with the car, but its a fun car to drive. It really likes to rev, big bore-short stroke, and with the cam and 4brl intake, the throtle response is nice. Sadly tho, I saw some dyno sheets once, and the car they belonged to had almost the same setup and it only made 180hp. So if your planning on spending money to make HP, dont. :damnit:

Im not sure of the emission laws out by u, but the car will pass here. If you need a stock setup to pass, dont bother because you'll never pass. I talked to alot of 2.8 guys when I was building the motor, I guess that the dura spark swap is the way to go. I never read a post on a board about somebody who was happy with their feedback setup. Im running a 390 Holly and the carb is just a bit to big for the motor. Off the top of my head, I dont know what size 2brl carbs are out there , but dont go to crazy.

http://www.therangerstation.com/ these guys have a a 2.8 board i think.

just thought i would say how my exhuast went.

compared to my no muffler set up, its very quiet, yet its still louder compared to some cars. even though its quite, it has a NICE sound, very low pitch sounds hot

my set up its a y pipe going to 2 cherry bombs into 2 tail pipes at 2 1/4 cost me 270 installed.

and here is a funny story. Right after i got it off the lift, i revved it up to hear it, then turned to leave the lot when 2 customers confronted me, here is our conver sation

Man> sounds great man
lady> yea thats a 5.0 right?
me> no 2.3?
man> o wow we have one at home, sounds NOTHING like that, that sounds like an 8
lady> are those true duals?
me> no its a y pipe
man> o well that sure sounds nice

i was so happy they thought it was an 8
