Good Price on 8" Rebuild?

It's time to rebuild the 8". I pulled it this evening and decided I need new bearings, seals and ring and pinion etc.

I am having a tough time finding 8" 3.00:1 ring and pinion sets - does anyone have a good source for them?

How about master bearing kits as well?

I took mine to a 4 wheel drive shop.

Cost $1100 to change it to 3.55 positrack from an open 2.80 diff. Worth every penny I spent, cept now I need an overdrive gear.......oops.

Ha, thanks for the input I'm looking for the budget rebuild for this car (it's the cruiser). The '95 is the race car.

I let the best gear installer in the area have a look at them and he recommended a new set after showing me how the current set was worn.

A local shop did mine for 800, but I went to a 3.73:1 ratio.

$170-180 is the best I've found on the gears so far from Currie and Strange, looks like we have a winner! Much better than the mid $200's that I first saw.

If it approaches $1000 don't bother and get a 9" posi. A straight rebuild/new bearing job shouldn't get that high though, I wouldn't think.

Summit has plenty of 8" ratio options, as do classic mustang vendors (NPD, Mustangs Unlimited).

If you've ever considered changing to a 9" or something else, nows the time though.

I have an entire 8 inch 3.0 open chunk in my basement. If you are interested let me know. I was just getting ready to put it on ebay.
