New user - Looking at some used slicks and skinnies for my foxbody, anybody give me a reasonable price range, what I should expect to pay, what is a good deal, what is a ripoff ? How much would you pay, or did you pay ?

Are we talking about wheels or tires or both? New or used? What size wheels and or tires are you looking for?

I bought my MH race master cheater slicks 26 x 10.5 x 15 used half life left for 100 bucks. If I was you I would just look them up new from summit or jegs. look at how much life and come up with a price. I wouldn't pay more then half for used tires. your best bet is to buy new i made the mistake. skinny's last along time so its another story

Depends on what wheels and what tires. Usually you can pick up a set of draglites around here for around $500 without tires and $600-$700 with good tires.

ya i bought my centerline warriors for 800 with mt sportsman skinnys no slicks on the back.

I am looking at wheels (deepwells and whatever skinnies he has) and tires, not sure how used, around $ 400 for the set. The guy selling them tells me it is a good deal but wanted to check.

Sellers are always offering "great deals" lol. But 400$ for wheels and any descent amount of tread on the tires are a good buy IMO. As long as the wheels are also in descent shape

15x8 you want 5.5" backspacing not 4.5" 15x10 you want 6.5" backspacing and a big hammer. Do not even bother with wheels with different backspacing with the stock rear you will be wasting time and money. Been there.

As I mentioned in the initial post, I am pretty new to all this, so if you felt like explaining the importance of backspacing real quick that would be super - also, what if they are more than 17'' ? For what it is worth I am currently running 17x9.5 cobra rims, on my '89 GT. (I have no idea if the rear is stock or not, but intend to find out from the guy I got it from)

Chances are your rear is stock, otherwise a standard 4 lug 17" wheel wouldn't fit right. Back spacing is the measurement from the back flange of the wheel mounting surface to the rear most lip of the wheel. Typically lay a straight edge across the back of the wheel and measure down to the rear of the mounting flange and voila you know the backspace!

Awesome, thanks. What happens if the backspacing is off in either direction ? Why would I need a big hammer for 6.5'' spacing ? And what if the wheels are bigger than 15" ?

Less back spacing moves the outer edge of the wheel out and less back spacing moves the inner edge of the wheel in. A 15x10 w 6.5" of backspace fits but requires you to massage the inside on the wheel well in the rear for additional tire clearance. Also consider the quad shocks a thing of the past.

the size of the wheel won't change the back spacing required as it's a measurement not an aspect ratio

I ran 15x10s with a 6.5 BS on my coupe. They look fantastic if you're cool with taking a hammer to your wheel wells. You can run a good size tire on a 15x8. Just depends what you're after
