I can get a good running turbo 2.3 from a Merkur for $300-350. I would be getting all the sensors, computer, and the complete motor. Never been rebuilt, probably over 100,000 miles on the car. What do you guys think???

I'm kind of cheap. I think thats kind of a lot for a high mileage motor. Then again, they do last a long time. I like to look for cars in peoples backyards and ask if they want to sell. I picked up an 86 Merkur with a rebuilt turbo for 50 bucks and since the frame was bent and I was after the parts, we took it to the scrapper after we stripped it and I received a check for 60 dollars from them, so I got all the parts I wanted to resell and I made 10. I dunno, i guess im trying to say look for better deals if you can.

.

Around here the turbo 2.3's are somewhat few and far between. I'm going to investigate it some more before I make a decision. Cash is kind of slim right now too. Thanks for the comments though.

If it were me I would drop the cash on it right now.

Is it near Seattle? If you don't want it, I certainly do.

I just started looking into this swap for my 2.3 lx. Used motors still go for nearly 500 from most yards / businesses. And that is just the motor.

Pull the motor and tranny (4 spd? Probably a typo) and part out the rest. You'll probably bank a grand AND have a powertrain for you LX!!

I also saw 4 SVO's and a couple of Merks on Seattle's craigslist!

I never even heard of craigslist. You crazy kids and your crazy internet, what will you think of next?

Thanks for letting me know. I have already emailed several of these folks. Hope they aren't already sold.

.

I am going to get the motor. I'm already running T-5 in my car for the tranny. The Merkur has a ****ty automatic (C-3). The junkyard was trying to sell the whole car previously, but the tranny was slipping and nobody wanted it. I'll probably pick it up next week some time.

Thanks for the advice.
