As I said above, problems with the fuel system. I also said a big block would be better than a stroker. I meant to say a big bore.

You are right, I never had a stroker and never will. I have seen a few friends troubles they have had with them. If my goals were major engine work, I would go Big bore because of their issues. There are people out there with issues regarding their strokers. Yes i am sure a few places make good strokers and designing it correctly. If i was to buy a Stroker it would be from MPH only. There are some strokers out there that are good like the 5.4 which is very different than the 4.6L due to the taller deck height and such. The 4.6L is a motor I would not want to stroke.

Anyone look into the internals of a 30,000 mile stroked 4.6L?

You have to realize the instability that the pistons are traveling. The pistons are traveling higher and lower and it puts stress on those components. Yeah you can make more torque, but at the sacrafice for reliability. Most strokers don't last long and that's why many are going the big bore route.

Go on Modular Depot, SVT Performance and other sites and just search the results people have. Few will say go for the stroker, while many rather do the big bore.

one of my best friends: Josh has an almost new cobra block sitting in my living room...and from what we're reading we're thinking about wet-sleeving it and going with a big bore setup...not a stroker...he wants to run 25 lbs of boost from a single turbo on it...it should be pretty impressive.

I've always heard the whole, "strokers" are bad thing. I was told the same thing with my 89 that had a 347 and was daily driven. Now on paper, the "issue" of strokers seems very possible, especially with the modulars. However, I have never actually heard of one breaking down due to its stroke nor have I seen one with 30k miles. I don't see any highly modified motor going that many miles. Something will always break.

That being said, I hold no value to the strokers issues but also would have gone big bore had I known about them when I installed my stroker.

It's more towards the modular motors than pushrods. My uncle has a 347 stroker in his 89 LX and that motor is pushing 450 at the tires and runs 11.32@123 mph. He loves it and has no issues.

Do strokers work well with roots type blowers like the kb?

Oops. I had a brain fart.
I meant to add turbo's love exhaust mass. But certain companies will try to tell you, that strokers are ABSOLUTELY needed. They're not. If you really want to push high HP, go with a 5.4, it is THE BEST solution to that problem. A .020 4.6 can support 1000hp in a tight powerband with a turbo, as long as the turbo is sized according to the engine.

The KB is a twin screw, but yes, it works great. Check my sig and mods below. I'm going in Thusday for an 8.0 inch crank pulley and retune, so the numbers will be even better. The car should go 10.0 or 9.9 next time out. Not bad for a daily driver that I drive all over the country to FFW and NMRA events.

What would you think about me using a KB 1.7 with my setup?
What fuel/ignition upgrades would I need with the 1.7 pushing lets say 450 rwhp?

I'm sure that would make a nice setup for you. I'm not really familiar with the '98's, but I don't think you would need anything ignition wise. You would need injectors and probably a fuel pump upgrade. That would probably be about it.
