Got a ticket!

I got a ticket but not in the mustang or any of my other cars for that matter. I was a passenger in my friends lightning. Well he got pulled over because the cop thought he ran a stop sign. Well my friend explains that he stopped then pulled forward to get a clear view of traffic then pulled out. Well the officer says ok he just wants to see my friend’s license and registration as well as my I.D. So I give him my license that had a crack right above the magnetic strip. Well he comes back with a ticket in his hand and tells my friend hes ok but asks me to step out of the vehicle and proceeds to give me my license back (that he completely broke in half) and a ticket for having a broken license. WTF! I had to go to the dmv and get a new license then had pay the $11.50 fix-it ticket. What a load of crap.

I think I would be calling a compaint into the department for personal property damage, even though it may be state issued, he had no right to destroy it.

That's messed up. I got pulled over by a hi-po and didn't have my license.He told me I didn't really HAVE to have it as long as I knew my SS#. I would fight that.

The florida state statute is 316.610

Here is a description I found online:

316.610 Safety of vehicle; inspection.--It is a violation of this chapter for any person to drive or move, or for the owner or his or her duly authorized representative to cause or knowingly permit to be driven or moved, on any highway any vehicle or combination of vehicles which is in such unsafe condition as to endanger any person or property, or which does not contain those parts or is not at all times equipped with such lamps and other equipment in proper condition and adjustment as required in this chapter, or which is equipped in any manner in violation of this chapter, or for any person to do any act forbidden or fail to perform any act required under this chapter.

(1) Any police officer may at any time, upon reasonable cause to believe that a vehicle is unsafe or not equipped as required by law, or that its equipment is not in proper adjustment or repair, require the driver of the vehicle to stop and submit the vehicle to an inspection and such test with reference thereto as may be appropriate.

(2) In the event the vehicle is found to be in unsafe condition or any required part or equipment is not present or is not in proper repair and adjustment, and the continued operation would probably present an unduly hazardous operating condition, the officer may require the vehicle to be immediately repaired or removed from use. However, if continuous operation would not present unduly hazardous operating conditions, that is, in the case of equipment defects such as tailpipes, mufflers, windshield wipers, marginally worn tires, the officer shall give written notice to require proper repair and adjustment of same within 48 hours, excluding Sunday.

Sounds like he didn't like you. you weren't being a smartass were you?

I'd never heard of that kind of ticket. I was pulled over this morning (3am) in my brand new 06 GT because I pulled out infront of a cop and accelerated to the speed limit very quickly. He said I was doing 60, but I explained that my speedo read 52. He ask where I was going in such a hurry and I explained I was just on my way to work. He told me to slow it down and let me go. The main reasons i didn't recieve a ticket are.

1. I was polite and respectful.

2. I'm 33

3. I was actually going to work and not out joy riding.

4. He never clocked me and i'm sure I could have picked apart his story in court that I was doing 60 in a 45 because he was behind me doing 60.

WTF does this have to do with a broken license???

It has been a new policy buy police officials that if a passenger even breaths heavy during a stop you will be yanked immediatly and since he could not find any other infraction then uv been targeted.

It's not a free country any more.

A cop was setting on the right shoulder of an interstate. I went by him (well under the speed limit) in the right-hand lane because a car had just passed me in the left-hand lane and I didn't feel it was safe to switch lanes to get over and put a lane of distance between me and the cop. The cop pulled out with flashing lights, stopped me and asked why I hadn't gotten over? I said a car had just passed me speeding. He said I didn't yield the lane to him and explained that a big semi had almost run over him. He gave me a ticket. A mile from there signs (in Kentucky) explain that state law requires motorists to either get over in the left lane OR slow down to yield for emergency vehicles. I've been looking for a copy of the law to read what it actually says but haven't been able to find it yet.
I drive the speed limit, use my signals, etc. I was passed by a speeder and I get pulled over. Gee!!!!

So....he had you take out your license, that wasnt in plain view, while you were a PASSENGER, then he broke it in half and gave you a ticket for having a broken license?

Something is just not adding up on this one.

I bet if you got a new license, then called the probate court, you could have the ticket dropped. It is only $11.50, but it is the principle of the matter.

Depends on state law, in Michigan you can get a fine for not having your license on you while driving, but not necessary if a passenger.

i hate cops too they have nothing better to do so they give us tickets for our cars being to loud. every car we own exepct the escape has gotten a ticket for being to loud. even the moped.

cops in Hillard i guess are just really bored.

I don't know all the laws in every state, But I'm pretty sure you are not required to have a drivers license unless you are driving. So it shouldn't matter if your license was broke, missing, suspended etc... I really don't think that ticket would hold up in court and it's obvious that the cop was harrassing you.
