I was hoping to make it to WFC, but it doesn't look like I am going to be able to make it as the car didn't coorporate.

I just got my 331 back from the engine builder with the following goodies:

Forged 331 Stroker Kit with 19CC Dished Pistons
X-303 Cam
Trickflow Twisted Wedge Heads
Ported Cobra Upper and Lower Intake
Vortech S-Trim
C&L Mass Air
42lb Injectors
255 LPH In-tank Fuel Pump
MSD Boost Timing Master

I am currently trying to sort the motor out, and am experiencing the following problems that I need help with:

Lean Fuel condition
- Autometer Air/Fuel Ratio Gauge reads lean
- Fuel pressure has been set anywhere from 40 PSI to 60 PSI at idle with little change in the status
- I am really confused, considering I have upped the Fuel Pressure increased the Injector size and increased the Fuel Pump size.

Lite Smoke at WOT
- When I go WOT, there is a puff of lite white smoke from the driver side header until I get off of the gas.

Thanks in advance for all your help.

I also forgot to provide the following codes that are being thrown by the computer:

I have also installed an electric fan and replaced my IAC and still receive these codes. I have also not plugged in the Smog Pump connection.

81
  • Thermactor Air Diverter (TAD or AM-2) solenoid: circut failure, or
  • Electro Fan Drive: circut failure, or
  • Intake Air Control (IAC) valve: circuit failure, or
  • Boost solenoid - circuit failure

82
  • Thermactor Air Bypass (TAB or AM-1) solenoid: circuit failure, or
  • Electro-Drive Fan: circuit failure, or
  • Supercharger Bypass Solenoid (SBS): circuit failure

85
  • Cannister Purge (CANP) solenoid - circuit failure, or
  • Transaxle problem - 3/4 shift solenoid circuit failure, or
  • Electronic Control Assembly (ECA) status - adaptive "lean" limit reached in fuel control program

84
  • Egr Vacuum (EGR-V) solenoid - circuit failure, or
  • EGR Vacuum Regulator (EVR) solenoid - circuit failure, or
  • EGR Shut-Off (EGR S/O) solenoid - circuit failure.

I wouldnt trust a narrow band O2- check these guys out- innovate wideband

Im not sure about the codes, although to have that many failures seems unlikely- maybe something is hooked up incorrectly and its not reading sensors correctly?

as for the smoke, how many miles on the fresh motor? could just be residue burning off....

There are less than 10 miles, I am just trying to get the thing tuned at this point. I have been running it quite a bit in the garage trying to tune it...

Could all of the codes with the exception of the lean condition be because of the Smog Pump delete?

Any idea why I may be running lean? Would the smog circuit have anything to do with that?

I dont see the smog circuit messing with your A/F that much- but like I was saying when I was using my Greddy narrowband it would work for maybe 25% of the time- it would go from all the way rich to all the way lean...crazy, anyways, I wouldnt tune with anything less than a wideband now

If we ignore the Autometer A/F Gauge, wouldn't the fact that the computer is throwing code 85 show that I am running lean? Or...is the CANP part of the Smog system?

I know they are really expensive, I had problems getting my mods to work with speed density. I installed a Crane Cams Interceptor (plugs into your cars computer and allows you to adjust fuel, timing, revv limiter...all that and more) and it allowed me to fix any lean/rich problems I had. I got mine used from a friend for $350, but they go new for $1000 or more I think. If you can find a used one, they're worth it. Good luck

Ok, now I think I am really confused...

I was showing the car to a friend and he was standing towards the back of the car when I reved it up. When this occured, there was a little black smoke that cam out of the exhaust. He thought that black smoke is a sign of a rich condition, even though the Autometer gauge still reads lean?!?!

Is black smoke the sign of a rich condition? I also noticed a little smoke coming from one of the header pipes (Cylinder 6) after reving the engine to 4,000 RPMs.

Well after playing with this for a while I am still having problems...

I have increased the FP upto 50 PSI with no improvement and am still having the same problems. Is it possible that bad O2 sensors could be causing the problem and tricking the motor into changing the Fuel Injector pulses?
