Well today is one very bad day for me. You know the kind of days that the moment you open your eyes in the morning chit just keeps happening ?? Well I had a big test today and I'm not gonna have a good score thats for sure. I'm one of the top 3 in my class but I really screwed up on that test. And it was worth 30% of the whole year..

Then I'm with my friend in my Cutlass not the mustang, and I'm waiting to turn LEFT on a red light. It turns GREEN for me so I go but there's still cars coming from my right that are still turning on their LEFT on my GREEN. I still go but very slow to make then know I'm going and to make them stop obviously. First vehicule that go is a commercial truck, bigger than the average. Second vehicule is a car. By the time he has passed I'm already at the middle of the road on my GREEN let me remind you all again. 3rd vehicule is the @ssh*** truck that I hit. I caught his rear bumper whuch ripped my car. Freakin guy was denying that he had passed on a RED He was saying that it was me. We started arguing and I said screw it and told my friend to call the cops cause this guy was a real @ss. Cops arrive 30minutes later. The guy had just decided to leave and was gone by now ! But I had his plate number So I tell the cops everything and 5 minutes later the guy comes back somehow.. He tells his story and from what the cop told me, he was the one in fault, obviously. I'll take pics of the Cutlass when I bring it back tomorrow.

Damages are driver headlights popped inside, side corner light destroyed, front bumper loose and damage, front driver fender unfixable. I'm thinking at least 1500$ in damages with paint...Here's a quick photoshop I did to illustrate the accident.

glad you're okay Mario!

i know exactly how you feel, except it WAS the Mustang for me
red-light runners should be shot!

I was making a left turn, my light had just turned green, and this guy comes thru red light and t-boned me. When the cop asked him what happened, he said: "the light was 100% orange when i went through officer!!"
The cop looked at me, and asked me what REALLY happened.

Thats a bunch of crap.. Now I have to claim this believe it or not for an old p.o.s. car. Before I left, I made sure that the report was saying that I was right and he was wrong. So HIS insurances are gonna pay for this........sucker.

Damn man, people suck today! The problem with a claim is that your insurance will become a little higher even if you're not at fault! That's why I want a pickup truck for a DD! But the Corsica I don't care if it's all dented up so I wanted to run into this old man's car after he burned a red light but I tried pressing the gas and my car stalled lol

Glad you're okay though and that your stang was sleeping when all this happened.

...update...

Well the "estimator" just came about 10minutes ago and he says that they wont fix the Cutlass. There's about 2000$ worth of damages on there. I was saying 1500$ so I wasnt that far off.

This car is worth like a big NOTHING in their book. I dont know how much they're gonna give me, but I feel like I'm gonna get raped. There is no way you could find an old car like that runs so smooth for like 1000$. I did put a few things in it like waterpump, battery, brakes last week, front winter tires, gas tank. The estimator (same guy that did the Mustang 2 summers ago) said he could get me in cash 50% of what I invested in it if I have the bills...

Now I wish I never went through the intersection...But I'm too stubborn.
At least I the guy.

I'll get pics later.

they NEVER fix the car, they always cook the numbers in they're favour so it's a write off. Too much liability in fixing the car.

You DO have the option of taking the write-off settlement and then you have the first right to the salvage, which you can buy for next to nothing. Then you can have it repaired, re-safetied, and back on the road.

That's what I did with my Mustang, and I had $700 left-over from the settlement.

from the pics, looks like it only needs a fender?
how is the front end alignment?

if the car is as good a driver as you say it is, I would buy the salvage and fix it yourself.

have you had a body shop (a reputable one) take a look at it?

I havent brought it anywhere yet. Waiting to see how much they'd give me first. The fender is busted up, the part between the front bumper and hood is busted also (fiberglass), the corner light, the inner fender is smashed, the light is pushed toward the engine. The alignement is perfect. Nothing about the driving is affected. I still want the car.

when the insurance company crunches their numbers, they replace EVERY part that even has a scratch on it with new parts so the cost to repair is as inflated as possible.

You can dispute the value of the car they come up with if you want. Basically it requires looking up autotrader and classified ads to see what average price a car of that age, mileage, and condition really sells for.

I know it isnt that bad at all but they dont want to fix an old car. They dont wanna give me money either to fix it. The appraiser (guy I know )told my insurance the car was worth 1700$

So they can scrap it all they want now

right, so the settlement price will be $1700?
take the $1700, then buy the car back for salvage cost (just guessing, but maybe $200?)
then fix the car yourself, have it inspected and safetied, and your back on the road
....probably with money left over in your pocket.

Nah. I dont want to bother anymore. If it gets the salvage title, then you need an inspection. There's stuff on it that is illegal. For the car to pass I'd have to spend more than you think.

Rather just buy an old civic or something.
