Got my FTI cam - degree questions

I got my heads and cam from Ed C. yesterday . Anyway, on my cam card it tells me my cam specs, and says to degree the cam using these specs, not the intake centerline method. I'm a little most as to waht this means. I'll probably just email Ed and ask him, but any help from any of you would be appreciated.

I wouldn't email Ed and bother him with this.

You will need to buy a degree kit or at the least a wheel and dial indiator.

Do method, not 1. I messed up and did mine using method one and since my lobes are not symetrical, I screwed up. Read the link provided and then if need be call Ed. You DON'T want to screw this up, it can mean the difference form an awesome running combo versus an average one. We screwed up on my dad's too and when we fixed it he picked up an immediate 2mph in the 1/4.

When i talked to ed about this. He said that the cam should be fine at dot to dot. But i "should" degree it anyways. I guess to just make sure?

Paul - do you mean method 2, not 1?

Anyway, I have a cam degree kit and will be reading the link, so I should be OK. I'm going to take my time, I'm in no hurry to do this. Thanks for the link and the tips guys.

It's really, really easy to do it with the specs Ed provides on the cam card. With a cam degree kit, you have everything you need. Calculate TDC using the piston stop, zero the degree wheel, and locate the valve events listed on the card. Then advance or retard to get the events located properly. Very easy, trust me!

Or better yet is you engine out of the car? take it to a machine shop and have them do...Thats what i had to do as i don't understand some of that stuff said on the card from EDC

But it's much more satisfying to learn and understand how everything is working, and do the work yourself. At least, in my opinion! If you just want to go fast, buy a crate motor. The building is half the fun!

Yea but when your looking for ever ounce of HP out of your N/A combo's i needed someone who know's what there doing.

Thanks Dave, that simple explanation really cleared things up for me. I also agree with you that building it your self is half the fun, not to mention the feeling of accomplishment and satisfaction that I get. I'll take a few less horsepower and have the satisfaction of knowing that I did it myself.
