Got the header on.

well the stock passenger side header sure was the reason i had an exhaust leak.

so far ive got the passenger side header on and i can tell a little difference in sound in the way off it almost has a little lope to it like it shows the cam some then the driver side its deeper and steady...

here are some pics and here is a video before i started working on it.

Those look like Macs? If so, I'll be looking forward to your next forum post about a month and a half from now asking "how to keep the header gaskets from blowing out?"

If you use the MAC copper gaskets, they don't blow out.

that what i got there were some $$$

but i do got to say, next time ill buy new headers....

each tube seems to be off from the heads about a 1mm on each bolt hole so i have to bet and pry on them to get them to line up

when i bought them the guy said that he had them on his explore motor in his 87 GT are the P head have P specific headers? or is the only real difference the plug angle?

i like them though but if i ever get headers again I'm buying new coated headers. that or ill have these coated.

got the 2 front tubes on the driver side done then smacked my finger and decided its time for a break for a few

Its b/c they have a flange for each tube, if you had bought some that are one piece flange they don't warp near as much if any.

yup my bbk's did the same and warped, when I took them off I had hell with the pass side. Good to see you got it up and running, but I was wondering when you took the rack off of the trunk did it mess up the paint or was it already primered?

I had one too, and I couldn't find it. Then when I was pulling my driveshaft out I found it...a HUGE hole in the front of my muffler! I was laughing so hard!

I wish insurance covered broken exhaust...

i honestly dont see how those individual flanges are that bad. in my eyes, as long as they dont get warped enough to where you cant start the header bolt in the head, then it should seal ok.

get the bolt started and each pair of bolts will pull down the flange and seal just fine.

i personally have never used a set like that so i may be wrong.

Ryan I ran into the same problem when I bought used headers with individual flanges.
And I had the same problem with a new set I bought as well.

Next time I buy headers I will buy a fullflange header. They do not move.

The problem with Mac, is that they cheap out on materials in order to sell their headers so cheap. The individual flanges move around with each heating and cooling cycle, causing the gasket to distort along with them, eventually leading to failure. Another problem is that he flange thickness is pathetic and warp almost instantly at the first sign of heat. If you ever get the chance to see a used one up close, run a strait edge across the surface of each flange....they're as warped as Strype.

I went through three sets of gaskets before I said screw it and filed each flange by hand to try to make it as true as possible, then with a set of Mr Gasket "Ultra Seal" silicone and steel impregnated gaskets (along with a huge helping of RVT high heat Copper Silicone around the port of each header flange and exhaust port on the heads themselves), it finally seemed to seal.

It hold up after that....but I ended up selling the car about a year later, so I'll never know if it was a permanent fix or not. My next step was cutting off the indifidual flanges themselves and welding on my own single piece flange made out of some 3/8”…or even 1/2” plate steel

ok got the headers on went out to aback road and romped on it...OMG it sounds so good...louder when im on the throttle and a different tone at idle!

i have UNDER 200 bucks wrapped up in my full exhaust and i couldn't be happier!!

ill get clip after school Monday..ive been out driving around listening to it! i love it.

not ture! problem is these headers of mine were bought in 2002 used for 10k miles spaned out over 4 years and then put in the garage till i bought them.

Got the header on.
