Got the new 357 shortblock, a few small problems though. *Pics*

Picked up the new 357w today for R.Barns, and we got started assembling the rest of the motor but ran into some problems.

1st problem: The dizzy won't sit flush. We are using an ARP oil pump shaft and an MSD dizzy for the 351w.
Do we cut/shave down the dizzy or the arp shaft?

2nd problem: (main one) The oil pickup has no where to bolt down to. What the heck do we do? We had to enlarge the hole so that it would go over the main cap bolt, but theres nothing to hold it down on it. If we get a small nut to fit it , it will only have 2 maybe 3 threads to grab ahold of.

3rd problem: The 351 fox swap pan seems to be warped a little. It won't sit flush. I think with the gasket in place and all the bolts tightened it will seal, but i dunno. Is this common?

4th problem: I forgot to buy beer :nono: :nonono:  :bang: :ban: :owned:

:SNSign:

Well this swap pan came from frpp and it didn't have any new stud for the pickup.

The bottom end has Arp main studs and arp rod bolts.

Ok, 2 people have said to cut the dizzy and 2 people have said to cut the shaft. What to do, what to do?

you've got to cut the arp driveshaft. see, this is why I don't run the arp driveshaft because it specifically requires being cut to length, i've been in the same spot as you and done the research on this.

this is SPECIFICALLY why I run the frpp driveshaft, it's plug and play with no cutting.

one other problem you may run into if you are carbing this 351w is some 351w dizzy's won't fit with the vic jr intake. (if thats the intake you are using). they have a 351w specific vic jr dizzy. I am told by edelbrock now that they cast the vic jr intake different so that the other msd dizzy will work but thats only if it is a brand new vic jr and not one from a couple years back.

Going EFI but thanks for the tip anyways.

It's getting a TFS-R intake, AFR 185's, Comp cam .579 lift cam for a 347 stroker, ALL ARP Bolts, 24# injectors, c&l 76mm maf, 70mm bbk TB (for now) . I'm sure theres more i'm forgetting but thats just some it. It's going into a 89 vert street car that will never see the track (maybe the dyno though), just wants to spank some ls1's and have fun cruising.

Today:

We got the pick up on with a nut and some loctite red.

Got the dizzy to seat fully by just moving the star washer on the shaft down a bit

Got the oil pan on with some help from the BFH and a block of wood.

Got the timing cover on.

Balancer on.

Checked pushrod length and will be getting the pr's tomorrow.

The cam degree tool was the wrong one so we just settled for the cam in straight up.

Crank shaft pulley spacer on but need to get longer bolts for the pulley.

Just taking our time with it and making sure everything is as good as we can get it. Hopefully it will be in and running sometime the week after next.
