Doing the Granada disc brake swap on my 65 and everything seemed to go together ok until I got to the tie-rods. Way to much overlap. Mine is a non-power steering car so both inner tie-rods are the same. I ordered Granada tie-rods for the outer but there seems to be too much overlap. Originally was an I6 car but everything has been converted to V8 linkage.

In all the swap info I have read I have only ever seen 1 article that said the tie rods must be trimmed (Mustang Steve) and that was only 1/8" to 1/4" on inner and outer. That still wouldn't be enough here I don't think. Do I in fact need to trim them? Nobody else seems to talk about it. Are these in fact Granada outer tie rods?

Pics attached. Thanks for any advice you can offer.

Is this a i6 or v8 steering setup ?

Stupid question but are you sure the steering wheel hasn't moved ? Check the other side of the car to see if the wheel is still pointed forward.

I was an I6 car but everything from Pitman arm down has been converted to V8 linkage. Had had my original steering box rebuilt and converted to a 4 turn unit but I just center to 2 turns for the halfway mark so that should be a non-issue. I have since cut approx 1/2" off both outer and inner tie rods and about an inch off the adjuster sleeve. Seems that's what people do. Funny that in all the Granada brake swap chatter this doesn't get mentioned much.
