Several years ago, I saw a really rough '77 Granada parked at an apartment complex. I left a note on the windshield telling the owner if it died on him, I would buy it for parts (spindles). He called me about a years later. I had completely forgotten about leaving the note, but I bought his car for $150.
I found some spindles at a local junkyard about 4 years ago. Picked them up for $100. I had called nearly every junkyard within 50 miles of me. Only two of them had what I was looking for.
I also found a Granada at Pick-N-Pull about 2 years ago. I was very surprised.
They are getting hard to find. Keep checking Ebay, Craigslist and junkyards. Good Luck.

Ill have the whole setup off my 65 here in a few months. Two sets of rotors. Going to the AJE front end is why I'm selling.

first set, I found at a pick and pull. The owner thought I was crazy for wanting parts off a POS car like a granada. Paid something like $50 for them.

The second set I found on stangnet. The guy had bought 2 granadas and only wanted the drive train. I think I paid $25 for the set.

Granadas and monarchs are out there. You just have to get to them before the crusher does. They do not seem to stay in the junkyards for very long before being crushed. (at least around here).

Actually, there are several ways to install front discs without changing the spindles at all, which reduces costs $100 right of the bat because you don't have to get a wheel alignment.

Thats true 2+2GT. I never even factored in the wheel alignment.

You can also get some Granada stuff from Mustangs Plus. Alot of the parts are available at most auto parts stores too.

I've used Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market for most of my junk yard parts. Once you get to the listing of available parts, you can arrange it by distance from your zip code. These aren't your usual pick-n-pulls but the yards that sell you the part over the counter. I was still able to get a Taurus fan for $20

There's a slim and none chance you'll find a posi equipped Granada rear. So if you DO find one with a 9" rear, jump on it, regardless of differential type. The 1980 (last year for the first gen Granada) cars had a bigger chance of getting the 9" rear (but it's a drum brake unit) I've run across two in the past few years both had 9's with drums. The first I bought was under a Monarch, it had 2.50's with trac loc, I've since bought several 9's from Versailles cars and none had a trac loc diff. I suspect with the 80 model, Ford was using up the 9's as nothing after had em, except for pickups and Broncos. By the way, the Bronco is your best chance of finding a trac loc 9" diff, but it's more likely to be a 31 spline unit. The Versailles/Granada/Monarchs were all 28's. Good luck and good hunting.

Kind of ironic that the most demand for Granada/Monarch brake parts probably comes from Mustang owners.

KInda amazing that those cars (being so Fuggly to start with) survived for so long before someone learning that there WERE some redeeming qualities under their fugliness .

Kinda sad that Ford didn't make front disc brakes standard before the Granada/Maverick era.

Well, Ford knew quality when they stole it from the Mustang.

People in the 60's were too cheap to shell out for disc brakes. Heck, you couldn't get people to pay $42 for a limited slip diff. Heck, the A code 289 4V engine was only $53 more than a C code 2V, and people wouldn't spring for that.

How many customers order a car ? Not many. That's the reason you didn't see more options in the 60's cars. 90% of people could care less about traction loc rears and other rare performance options. The factory loads em up with options now regardless of customer likes and dislikes. More options there are, the more people like seeing the stuff firsthand at the dealer. Kinda like the old "carrot on a stick" routine. Also creates more jobs at the factory and the suppliers.

Actually, very early in the 65 production run, Mustangs demand was so hot that the only way to get one was by factory order. My parents bought our 66in May of 65 and it was delivered in November. Many of the published options were in short suppy and were left off. The dash pad and carpet were the wrong color for the car's Ivy green interior, the tach in the performance package and the posi diff were not installed due to shortages. The dealer claimed that these diffs were in short supply due to Vietnam War demand.

Disc brakes were considered exotic and as 2+2 GT said, customers were cheap. Drums brakes and poor braking performance were the norm. I well remember several multi-dozen car pile ups, on the freeway, that my father just barely avoided by swerving onto the shoulder.

The 65 Mustang is just one of many cars. I was speaking in general terms. Once the "newness" wore off the 65 and production caught up personal orders did as well. Same thing happened with the 05 Stang. Everything that was an option then is std equipment now. It's been like that since the mid 70's. When I ordered my 06 GT, I went the opposite route, ordering the base model with one option , the wheels.

Huh. I had no idea the Army liked the Ford 9" Equalock so much

4-wheel disc brakes were standard on the 65 Corvette, but for the people who didn't want them (sounds crazy, right) they'd install 4-wheel drums for a discount. This is also relevant to Mustangs, oddly the master cylinder and proportioning valves were Bendix units.

Both 8" and 9" rears were also used in some forklifts. That would be the reason for the dealer to make a claim such as that.
