Grant Steering Wheel Slop!!!

 My friend and I attempted to put a Grant steering wheel in my 65 fastback. Well, now the steering has slop and can move fron side to side, plus there is a gap between the column and the cover that came with the kit. Please tell me what I am missing....

Are you sure you got the right adapter kit? Mine fits/works fine. I think I still have the adapterkit box in my spare parts storage. If you want I can look up the number of mine.

The gap can be fixed by loosening the two bolts that clamp the steering tube to the dash and sliding the tube up a bit.

The slop is probably due to not getting the shaft nut tightened enough. Mine loosens up and has a little extra play at the wheel. I can feel it as I change turning directions.

Well, I just learned a good lesson. I got up early and took a fresh look at the situation. I went to ace and got three 1/4 bolts so I could pull the steering wheel back off. I left the factory spring out and the washer was loose that the spring mates with. I push the washer back in place and no wobble. Now I have order a new spring because my friend threw the other one away... I tried the column thing but it seems to be stuck. I will attack that again when the engine is out....
