So I was troubleshooting my blower/pulley noise this morning, and after I shut the car off I heard this noise the car has never made before. Sounded almost like a ball bearing that kept spinning around after the motor was off, but after listening to it again its coming from the valve cover/manfold area.

A friends swung by and listened, suggested it may have something to do with the fuel rails. I dunno, but its never made this noise before and it was pretty loud. Have a listen....to the very end.

Thx.

I was thinking maybe the fuel rail depressurizing somehow...maybe through the injector.

Def. wierd sound.

if the injector was depressurizing the car would crank for awhile on the next startup

sounds like the injector keeps firing after you shut her down. try disconnecting that injector as soon as you shut it off, that way you can verify that is in fact that injector and not something else

Can you borrow or rent an auto stethoscope and localize the sound to verify it's the injector?

Do you have another injector handy that you could swap in place of the one that's making the noise?

a quick method to verify it is indeed the injector without buying anything is to just pull the injector harness out of the one injector while it is running and quickly turn the car off and see if the noise persists.

I don't think that will work, because the injector is supposed to automatically close when it loses power, and if it's leaking when the car is off, then pulling it wouldn't do anything. With a noise like that, I'd think you could feel it happening at least. Try pinching the injector between your fingers when that happens, to at least confirm it's coming from there.

Thats one weird noise . And what the heck is all that noise your car is making while its running???? Its like a bad bearing somewhere. Definatly get an auto stethoscope and localize those 2 sounds.

the injectors can't make a noise like that with the engine off. even if it was shorted to power or stuck open it would remain open and not make noise.

Someone on MPH mentioned the PCV

Cody, that noise is a bad bearing somewhere. I tried spraying WD40 on the bearings to isolate which one it is, but no luck so far.

Im thinking......I should have bought a Cobra. Yeah, a Sonic Blue Cobra.........

A bad PCV can cause some strange sounds, after you first shut the engine off there is still some vacuum there so the sound might continue

I will try and listen to the sound clip later, but I am having issues with my audio card right now and noises are very difficult to diag over the internet

Well I R^2 the PCV and the noise is gone (or at least I didnt hear it). Im gonna wait until I have someone else to shut the car off so I can stand there and listen, that way I dont miss a couple of seconds running around the door to the passenger side of the motor.

Helty, it may be worth a shot to remove your belt and fire the car up and see if that main noise is still there. That should help you narrow it down to the S/C or accessories if it goes away.

Glad you got that other noise fixed

Good idea, I'll look into that if all else fails.

Id love to just upgrade to an 8-rib setup and replace all the damn pullies, but they dont make an 8-rib 3.60" pulley that I know of. Now, if I got an FMIC, I could pulley down..........hehe, always looking for an excuse to mod.
