Over the past 3 years I have come to the conclusion that most mods (not all)for the 4.6 are over-priced and yeld little power.

I spent the first year trying to get my 2000 gt auto into the 13s:
Here;s what i purchased:

cat back
x-pipe
410s
pullies
cold air intake
et streets
Mass air

The total cost was around $2000

What did I get?
Stock 1/4 mile ....14.45
With mods 1/4 mile....14.13

I think 2 tenths were the slicks.

So I pulled every thing off the car (including gears)excluding the exhaust because it sounds great.

Last year I purchased Nitrous for $575 with these results:
I get 23 mpg, when crusing.
My car does not dimm, lunge, bog, or run differently depending on the weather.
***I run low 12s in the 1/4 mile***

I've never been so happy with my car. It runs great, I stomp Z28s and T/As and I dont worry about buying somthing else to gain 10 hp.

Only with neon lights!!!
I think they come as a kit or something. Or the decals come in the box with the lights.

Maybe some GE stickers would work! like..........GE 125 watts

Mass air meter - A Mass air meter on a bolt-on GT will give little or no gains at all. That was a waste of money then but might be worth something now that you got nitrous on your vehicle.

Cold air induction - I take it when you say "Cold air intake" you probably had a metal one like the BBK or Mac crapper. Both are a waste of money. I know. I had the BBK CAI kit and it was crap. Any induction kit that is made of metal will probably not be worth it in the end as metal gets hot and will cost you power. The bend in front of the MAF meter doesnt help things either. The only one I've seen that works great is the K&N FIPK system.

The other mods you mentioned though are good mods. You should have seen some sort of a gain with them. Especially the 4.10's and e/t streets. Has it ever occured to you that you might be an inconsistent driver or perhaps you are just racing at a bad track due to altitude, extreme humidity, or just a bad track altogether ?
The total cost was around $2000

I take it you are including installation costs as well? If not, then you got ripped off on the parts you bought. Especially if the x-pipe was an o/r setup.

You're car bone stock should be able to run between 14.0-14.5. If it can't, then something is wrong somewhere.
So I pulled every thing off the car (including gears)excluding the exhaust because it sounds great.

Are these parts still laying around ? I only ask cause if you're not going to use them, you might want to sell them and get some money back since you seem to be so disappointed.

That can't be much of a nitrous kit for only 575 dollars. I also take it you're running no less than a 125 shot to be pulling those kind of times ? If thats the case, then between the kit only costing 575 dollars and you running that size of a shot, all I can say is I hope you like the power and gains you got for now because it won't last. That motor is heading for a devistating fate.

You sure you're being honest about this or are you just handing us some to start something or get attention.

You're incorrect on your assumption of the 125 shot. If he's running the correct precautionary measures to keep the car leaning more towards the stoich to rich side, the car will be just fine. Nitrous, when used correctly is no more damaging than any other power adder you install on your car. And most ALL kits start at $575, they just include the basic equipment to get you started. He'll have to pay extra for purges, heaters, openers, and what-not.....(unless he really found a steal somewhere). I would like to point out that I don't understand why his times were no batter than they were though, because these cars on ET's are capable of high 13's stock.

Sounds correct for an unmodified (no stall or shift kit) auto...again, no flame intended, but there plenty of guys that I know with little bolt-ons that run low 13's (5 speeds).

Everyones opinion is different I guess. If my car ever runs a 14.45 I will burn it trackside. I think your results are not normal which means one of two things conditions were not right at all (possibly raining) or you need a little driving practice.

I really hope you made more than a couple of runs before you came to these assumptions.

I was trying not to go into extensive detail so thats why I left out some info. Any modern GT on a power adder with the stock bottom end is on "borrowed time" if you ask me. I know you can run nitrous safely but still, if you run more than a 100 wet shot or more than a 125 dry shot with stock pistons and rods, you're asking for problems. Although they are durable, they are not forged steel. They will eventually go. Maybe not as fast as with a supercharger as a supercharger is constantly running(yes I know about blow off valves to relieve pressure but you get the point), but still, enough hits of large nitro and that motor will grenade. Besides, I'm imagining than a 575 dollar kit probably doesn't have all the nice extra safety features but then again, I'm not a nitro and I don't know the kind of kit he has so I can't say for sure.

Anyone pick up on the fact that:

Vert = Pig

And if it is, in fact, an automatic 'vert:

Auto Vert = sluggish pig

14.45 for a stock 'vert sounds about right. The modded times though, I will agree sound a little off. And whos to say he didn't find a good used nitrous kit with all the goodies for $575?

also low 12's on et streets, midpipe and 100-125 shot? got any slips.

I think you just put all of the bolt on manufacturers out of business with this thread

Well two things, I didn't pick up on the "vert" part so I guess thats a factor. Two, he never said weather or not the nitrous kit was used or new when he purchased it so thats a deciding factor. Three, I have to agree with Jackie Chan. Thats why I said I'm "assuming" he's running "at least" a 125 shot. Has to be to be hitting those low of times.

im inclined to agree somewhat

i aggree about the bolt on do little as far as perfomance.

The only one i really thought was worth it performance wise was gears on a na car.

Alost subs are not really going going to net you better times but if you have a vert and drive it hard you better have em.

And yes i have a vert pig 5speed 98(non pi)

one more possiblity, could be altitude. if he lives in a elevated area it'll put that time up there i hate racing in the mountains

Who F'n cares what this guy says, the fact is with 800-100 in bolt ons you can easily cut .5+ from your et(about 4-5 car lengths in the 1/4). He states what mods he used and some ets, NO mph, NO altitude correction, and NO 60's. What I'm saying is he didn't pick up 2secs with only the addition of nitrous. When you come to a TECH forum and post this back your statements up fully not half assed like this
