mine got so hot once the thing started smoking. it was a short in the battery, i replaced the battery and it never did it again. have the battery tested, or replace the ground cable. i think you can get a factory replacement at ford for like 13-15 bucks.
i think if the cable itself is bad (i.e. corroded on the inside, has high resistance, etc) it will get hot too. that whole thing with juice flowing from ground to positive comes back to bite you.

I might try adding another ground wire to the frame as well as the chassis. The battery is in the trunk and right now it is grounded to a spot in the trunk. I doubt the cables are bad though since they are only about a year old.
Since it is in the trunk anyone think it could be a bad ground?
sounds like you need to add a second or larger cable, the extra distance/resistance from the car sounds like its adding a larger load to your battery that cant be handled properly by the current size
I am using 1awg cable for about three feet to a panel inside of the trunk. I have another cable that I never made up to run to the frame....I guess I have to add that now.
What's funny is that I never noticed this before (then again I never go grabbing the ground cable either).
One 4 gauge ground strap from battery to chassis in trunk.
One 1 gauge ground from battery to engine block .
One 4 gauge ground strap from same place on engine block as previously mentioned to chassis near where the battery was originally.
Make sure the computer ground is connected to the chassis at the same ground point as the 4 gauge ground point previously mentioned. The computer ground has a round black cylindrical quick disconnect on it. It is a critical ground for EFI engines
I thought you were supposed to keep grounds as short as possible? That is why I was going to run two seperate grounds in the front and rear. I have subframes in so the frame is tied together.
