Did a search, but to no avail. My wife's 01 GT is acting up sporadically. For the last couple of months, once and a while the car will stalls out on a cold start. Starts fine, but as soon as it catches, it dies again. It will run fine if I hold some gas to it, but if I let the gas go, it dies. Start again, hold enough gas to get it out of the driveway, and all of the sudden its fine, no stalling, sputtering or rough idle at all, and if we stop to go in somewhere, it would start fine. THis does not happen on every cold start though .MOst of the time, cold start is fine. Tonight was the worst though. We were going to go get something to eat. Car hasnt been started all day(no problem yesterday or the day before.)Acts up again, only this time, it dies out every time my wife let off the gas to change gears, so she's basically power shifting through the neighborhood at 25 MPH. Its 1 mile and 2 turns to get out my neighborhood to the main road, and 1 mile to the store(never going over 50mph), and it dies as we're pulling into the parking lot. When we come back out, it starts fine, and never dies the whole way home. . I checked the inertia switch and the fuse fo the fuel pump, both fine, however, I do not hear the pumpp prime at start up, but I rarely drive the car, and I cant remember if I ever heard it(all of the other Mustangs I had you could hear it).IS the rely or the pump going out? Any suggestions?

IAC (idle air control valve) Maybe my 2000 did this before and it was the IAC.

Yeah, could be. I had to clean it on my 91, but the 91 still would idle(rough but it wouldn't die until I was out on the road Cleaning the IAC and calibrating the TPS cleared that up. Should I be concerend about not being able to hear the pump prime when the key is turned on before I start it?

Definitely the IAC. Here’s a pic if you’re not sure what to look for.

You need a new IAC they are $50 at AutoZone and $100 at the Ford parts counter. Both places normally stock them and it is super easy to change.

This is my car. And I know this may be a stupid question, but would the IAC be covered on my warranty? I am still a few thousand miles from my warranty running out.

+1 on the IAC, those are exactly the symptoms of a bad or dirty one

I don't see why it wouldn't be covered by the warranty...I'm sure any competent service writer would be able to get it taken care of, it's a very common issue
