I want to know if the GT-40 is really worth $600 there are so many other aftermarket EFI intake manifolds, is it better then other pieces that cost the same, or even less?
It depends what you want it for! If you want it for looks, then I guess it could be worth it. At least I think it's a great looking intake, but for performance it's not worth $600 at all. It does not flow nearly as well as other aftermarket intakes and I don't believe you can port the upper at all!
thanks for the info, I was wondering because my friend who does mechanic work told me the the GT-40 was better with my new ford crate engine with the aluminum GT-40 heads because it was made to mach it, but I thought that all after market intakes would be made to fit all after market heads, am i wrong? , Thanks for the help.
The GT-40 is basically the same thing as a Cobra or Explorer intake, except its $200 more. The Cobra is actually a more efficient choice as it is fully portable. If I were you, I would look for an Explorer intake as they are virtually the same internally as the GT-40, and you could probably find one for 1/3 of the price....
I wish Ford would drop the price of the GT-40 down to $400. That would make a lot more sense
If you want it, it's worth whatever you're willing to pay for it. There are other intakes that flow more at peak, but peak flow isn't the only thing worth considering on an intake purchase for a street car. How the flow is distributed between the runners, average flows (which take low rpm performance into consideration too) are also helpful in making a choice. While the GT40 upper can be Extrude Honed (expensive) to some degree, the fact that it can't be ported in the traditional sense isn't so much of an issue - it's the lower that is the flow restriction, and it can be ported. The only thing that hasn't been mentioned is that the GT40 is the lightest manifold out there -- saving you about 9 lbs. over all the other cast uppers. The Cobra, GT40 and Explorer all share the same lower intake - it's the uppers that are different. They are decent flowing intakes that will support the milder mods that are made to the majority of 5.0's out there. As others said, the other aftermarket intakes flow a bit more at peak - but that's only an issue if you've got enough motor to overwhelm the intake's flow limits.
TMoss is selling the explorer intake all done tb injecters I think he said fuel rails too ready to bolt on and go ohh yah ported to your heads get a hold of him it was a really good price
RPM intake or TFS track or ported cobra. you can get a used cobra intake for like $250, then spend $300 on porting and it will flow WAY better than the gt40....and total its $50 less
