GT just got T-boned! Now what?

I know with my former insurance company (MetLife I believe), I was able to buy additional insurance for any aftermarket pieces. My current company, GEICO, doesn't allow any aftermarket pieces at all...they want the car to be stock, otherwise they drop you like a stone....I'll just have to bit it if any thing happens and it's my fault.

Yeah, the trick is a firm disposition and patience.

I had a 92 Chevy Lumina with 250k miles on it that got smashed by a station wagon the size of a tanker truck while I was sitting behind a stopped school bus. It took a couple weeks and a small army of phone calls but I managed to get a very reasonable settlement for the car that was a hell of alot higher than their original offer, which was laughable.

Its bad that it happened man and I feel for you. Nothing is worse than the destruction of something you put your heart and soul into. No matter what the insurance guys pay out you cant get back the time and emotional investment..

I would REALLY go to the doctor though man, really. Neglected damage can be a big deal later. I'm 22 years old and have arthritis all through my left arm because I neglected to deal with problems when they occured. Doctors = good, =]

89sleeper: Dont know how you made it through that, but glad you did!
Thanks. Yeah Im glad I did as well. It was pretty scary so I know what Idwitheld-1 went through.

Damn dude, and you walked away from that?
Yeah. That was me taking the video afterwards. Happened back in 1993. Just minor cuts and bruises. My knees and my hip hurt from the impact and some glass was in my arm and head, but not too bad. No Broken bones. :D A few months of physical therapy to make sure I was 100%. :nice:

damn nice looking stang too, yeah were/are you alright after the accident?
Thanks. Yeah I made it ok. I was lucky.

OMG....that seriously touched me in a bad way....it hurts to see a car that F'ed up.
Yeah it hurt me too. I had been working on that car for 2 years and had just put in a complete new drivetrain out of a 90 GT, 8.8 Rear, T-5, Roller motor, etc.... I also put new interior in it as well. New (at the time) Porno Red seats and all the rear panels from a 90 GT. The last thing I did was put the motor in and it was only in there for 1 month. :(

Idwitheld-1. Keep your head up :flag: and take others good advice. I am glad I went to the doctor and did physical therapy. I didn't feel that bad but I did not want to regret it later. Now, later, I don't. :D

"nice junkyard coupe with a straight body"

Probably an oxymoron....

Actually, around here it's not as uncommon as you'd think. I was just looking at an '80 coupe a few days ago for sale for 800 bucks that just needs new doors....otherwise it was nearly rust free and just needed some pieces of side molding. Sure, they're getting harder to find but they're still out there.

M.Y. Good advice (as usual).

My neck and upper back (spine) are VERY sore. I can't move my head without having pain. My girlfriend has the same symptoms. She was in the passenger side which took the hit.

I've decided to buy a F250 and park the stang. I'll try and work on it when I can, but I don't want it to be my dail driver (any more). The Fox4 was my dream car since I was 17 (1987). This will never change.

All 3 of us involved in this accident have state farm insurance. I have a feeling I'm getting the short end of the stick as my car is 12 years old (110K miles). I am meeting with my agent tomorrow. I want to impress upon her how much this car has meant to me, and how 99% of the cars on the road are "jelly beans- a million produced in every color". My car is NOT a jelly bean. It is NOT utilitarian transportation - thats what Honda's are for! She needs to FIGHT for me, my interests AND my overall business as I have two cars and a home owners insurance policy through them.

The reality is setting in. My car will never be the same. Period.
Thanks for all the advice fella's.

My recent wreck, Oct 8th, took 36 days and $6400 to fix. At that, they broke my parking break cable, and did not fix my oil pressure sender to Auto meter gauge. They called it corroded. Well it worked before. I had a 96 Cobr hood, bumper on the car and they replaced it. I asked them if I could get a Cervini's Cobra R hood on instead of a OEM Cobra hood instead because it was cheaper. They did it, Shaved the emblems, painted the whold front end. The thing that was bad is that the 30+ days I was without a car I only got $20 a day for a rental car. Where do I get a rental for $20 that aint a Metro? So, I pulled the cash (extra) to pay for the rental car, State farm basically told TS. That is all I get. The bad thing, Both of us had SF for insurance. Inside F u c k! :notnice: Who's gotta fight when I spend $250 a month on insurance and have homeowners, three cars and a bike with them. They don't care. Either take the chance by modding your car or don't mod it. Luckily I hadnt started modding my car yet under the hood. I was $1000 under the total line and I only scaved that because I have a "Cobra appearance package" Which I proved through 50resto.com's catalog. I wish they had totaled it. I would have got $8900, bought my car back and then parted it out. I hate insurance co's

Byt the way, in Illinois, if your car in less than 7 years old, you CANNOT buy it back. Wheeew my GT is a 95 and so is my Cobra.

We both went to the doctors office. I have a follow up later this week. Just tender...for now.

Car goes to shop tomorrow.
Bought a new truck tonight. No more Mustang daily driver. Will keep you all posted to the results of the adjuster. Cross your fingers. Again, thanks to all for your support.
Has the stangnet changed? Or is it just my head injury? (kidding)

i work at a bodyshop, and deal with many insurance companies every day. In the state of tenn. if you have reciepts for your aftermarket parts, then the insurance company will have to pay you for them. It's the law; here at least.
if you don't have reciepts; get some.

How come I can find half a dozen 88-93GT's within 25 miles (on Auto trader) asking 6-8,000 dollars yet the blue book of a Fair condition is 3200 bucks? How the hell is blue book calculated?

Estimator said today it is 99% likely the car will be an insurance total (after 15 minutes of inspection). And that's before it is even on the "rack". I suspect a lousey settlement package is on its way....damnit!!!

Strip and sell the parts man. Its a pain in the ass but the only way your going to get anything out of it. I got ripped off by my insurance company when it came to aftermarket stuff. I had a reciept for 2500 for wheels and tires...they offered me 600 :nonono: Anywho if they only plan to pay you for a stock bluebook mustang make sure thats all they get.

ID - be sure you document all those ads with asking prices MUCH higher than blue book. That's part of the documentation you'll need when you make the argument that their offer is unacceptable. The asking prices of those other cars helps to build a case that they've undervalued your car. Get copies of all the receipts for stuff done to yours that you can get your hands on; any pictures that document mods, and the shape it was in (assuming it was in good shape - if it was a jalopy, then you can't very well claim they're screwing you). All of those things will help you make a case that they've undervalued your car. Do some searches in the classified ads - most newspapers around the country have online ads - you can get all kinds of documentation about asking price. Also, ask around to get people to verify for you (a simple letter will do) how much they paid or sold their similar car for. Asking price is one thing - market value is determined when a buyer and seller agree on a price and consumate the transaction. Capice?

The damage estimate is in. Repair cost: 7,000 dollars!

I emailed summit racing. I am hoping they can query my purchases over the last 4 years. A single itemized receipt would be awesome. I did not save very many packing slips and my other laptop died so I have no order confirmations (web orders).

Stangers, what did you pay for your used 87-93GT? And in what year?

Many, many thanks to all.

Maybe I can shed some light on this, I'm an insurance appraiser & I do this every day of my life. State Insurance Laws dictate how the actual cash value of your car is determined not the insurance companies or the "blue book". Contact your insurance company or your State's Insurance Commission to see how they calculate it. In PA we have have 2 use 2 methods & average them together. We use the NADA Book Value & an outside company who obtains dealership inventories & can provide us with an adverage of at least 30 other vehicles of the same year, make, model of similar condtion (If a person says he can't replace the car for what I'm offering I can show him 30 adds to prove that I can). As far as aftermarket parts. In PA, if you are the claimant & have receipts, by law I have to pay you for the parts (however they do depreciate & if they are more than a year old then you are pretty much boned). If your our insured you will only be paid for aftermarket parts that you informed your agent of & listed on your policy.

....Most likely your best option is retain your parts & let the insurance company have the rest of the car. You won't get as much for the car but you'll be better off with the parts.

As long as you're healthy, and happy with the settlement, that's all that really matters. Good luck with the next one!
