I might be looking to trade my Mazda6 for a Mustang at some point. I was going to do it for a GT, but the trade will put me over $500 a month and I don't want to spend that much.

I haven't driven a V6 manual Mustang yet. Would it be worth looking into one? I want sound and power, and I know the GT has both from the factory. I feel I would need to replace the muffler with the V6 to get any decent sound, and even then I don't know if it would be close enough to a GT or not. I know they sound different, but just some good sound would be great.

I really hate the lack of power the 4 cyl Mazda6 has. Everything else is great, just no torque at ALL (I even have the auto).

I had an '03 GT auto, and I want something similar to the power it had. Would the new V6 4.0 be anywhere close?

If I had the money I'd get a GT, but just don't, so I'm considering the V6.

TIA for any suggestions.

I was stunned the first time I heard the new V6. Really good sound for a six. Ford's R&D put a lot of time on the sound of the new Stang.

As a comparo, a stock '06 runs about the equivalent of my stock 95 GT.

That's not bad. You have consider it's 11 years newer too though.

I do think the 4.0 sounds good, but I don't know that it's GT sounding, if you know what I mean. It's hard to beat a V8 sound on a Mustang.

I haven't driven a 4.0 stang yet, other than an auto. I need to drive a manual so I can listen to it in the RPM ranges. If I like it, there's a good chance I'll be interested in one if the power is there too.

alright i drive both a Gt coupe, and my father has a v-6 convertable. both manual. So this is what i have to say

If your trading in your car.. your going to be losing money. simple law of business any transaction costs money....

so if your worried about money you should not be buying a new car yet. Cars are investments that decrease in value at an astounding rate.

plus isnt the mazda 6 start at 19,670? a gt isnt a Helluva lot more money than that. unlese your looking for a vert but financed it shouldnt be drastically more than what your paying now. i know it will be more money of course, but my cars msrp was at 26,5--.

if you can afford the Gt then its your choice. but if your going to get a v6 and your complaining about the power in your mazda6... well im guessing your going to want the GT after driving the v6. thats just my opinion so take it as you will. but the v6 does have some power, but as my dad says "its just a toy", while the Gt is a "serious machine."

if it were me, id pocket the money, invest it in something that will appreciate in value
then later, buy one when it will be no problem financially. "good things come to those who wait"

sry if this doesnt help you at all..

I suggest you go over to the S197 V6 forum and check out the preformance options and upgrades available to you.

A 2006 V6 is a very drivable (and affordable) entry level sports car, >>> in my opinion.

I think you will constantly wish you had bought the V8 if you buy the six. You mentioned hating the lack of power that your Mazda has ... need more torque, etc. The V8 will put a big smile on your face for a long time!

That is definitely true. I need to test drive a V6 and see if I like it at all. Unfortunately there aren't any V6 manuals in my area at all. There's 1 GT that I really want, but the monthly payments with a trade go up $150. Makes me sad! If I made more money I wouldn't worry about it. I guess that's everyone's problem.

No question I'd go out and by a GT right now if I could afford it. The problem is the Mazda6. I won't get but $16k for it if I'm lucky on a trade, and I'd hate to get stuck with it for months if I didn't trade it. Too bad I don't have someone in my family that wants it.

Essentially I'm looking at the V6 as a cost effective method of buying a mustang. Unfortunately sound and power are important to me, so... we'll have to see what the V6 holds in that aspect.
