GT40 heads to buy ???

for that kind of money you are pretty close to used aluminum heads. gt40's were/are still great, there are just better heads to be had.

if you want a cheap upgrade, pull a set off an explorer and swap the springs for a stronger set and bolt them up. by the time you get into porting/polishing you have more into less than desireable iron heads than they are worth.

I run gt40's b/c I practically got them for free along with the explorer intake so I didnt feel the crunch when I took them to a shop to get cleaned up. If I paid 3-400 dollars for the heads and then another 2-300 on top of that to have new guides, valves, etc... I would seriously be wondering why I didnt find a used set of AL heads in the first place. dont get me wrong, I love the heads on my car, but if I was starting from scratch and didnt have any heads yet, IMHO, just me and what totalling receipts have shown me is that it "may" be in the long run cheaper to srping a bit more for AL heads. A ported explorer intake can keep up with a good set of AL heads and wont break the bank and you'll have a stout combo that has great street manners and will haul ass on the strip. Like I said. just an observation I have made.
