Here's a guy who put a "sizable down payment" on an '07 GT500 blue/white stripes. Guaranteed list price on MSRP under $40k.
http://www.mach1mustang.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=6434

My first thought was he got taken by an unscrupulous dealer. Then I noticed he said delivery "approx March of '07." Maybe something's up, namely, that Ford is planning to built a lot more GT500's than expected. In which case maybe there will be plenty of GT500's to sell at list... more likely if gas hits $5/gallon.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see. For sure, I won't be getting any of the first allotment of GT500's.

Everything I have read indicates that Ford will build all that people want. Seems strange, though, that someone can be guaranteed a car and a price before it's built or the price even set.

Oh man that is so funny to hear how that got hosed. The dealer put himself into a position he can't deliver on, he will back out and this guy will be pissed. MSRP is not going to be under $40K. A dealer can't dictate that, they can sell it for that, but they can't dictate it. Oh man this is hilarious. I gotta show my family this, Uncle Bill is going to be pissed!

Ford and SVT stated that it WILL be under $40 grand. Whatever the dealer markups are the guy will still have to pay.

MSRP - Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (meaning ford, not the dealer)

Not if the dealership wrote him a contract stating that he will pay MSRP for the car. They can put $20K markups on the other 2, but if he has a signed, written contract with money deposited, they will have to honor the MSRP deal.

If you read the other forum on this, you will note he will not produce the written contract despite many requests. If I had bragged about this I would be willing to post the contract.

If a dealer signs a contract offering to sell the car at MSRP (or a certain price), and the buyer puts down a deposit, the dealer is required to honor that contract. If he does not, the buyer can sue for breach of contract and probably win very easily.

Now whether or not this guy actually has such a contract is another story altogether.
