Hey everybody i'm new to this forum and i'm currently shopping around for another mustang... I've been reading around here for awhile and i'm pretty sure you guys could lay it all out on the table so if you could compare a 99+GT or 98 cobra and and also compare the differences in performance and future performance with mods. different engines......cobra engines are 4v gts are 2v

99-04 GTs 260bhp - 98 Cobra 305bhp.....Cobras got those Big flowing 4v heads and the GTs got alright flowing 2vs...

Ive seen a N/A 281ci GT motor put down at the most 315 RWHP....And thats with alot of money and basically maxed out in the bolt on mods and Heads.

Not sure about the 98 Cobra Motor but ive seen around 330 Rwhp......

Anyway The truth is the best application for the Mod Motors is BOOST....Instant Big time Power.

sweet thanks so the cobra has 305 hp stock?? i didn't think it had that much that's pretty decent.

99+ GT's compete very well stock with pre 99 Cobra's, i.e. the 98 car. IMO the cobra is a great car, and in a situation where I could get a 98 Cobra for a great price, or a 99GT for a great price, and both perfect, i'd take the Cobra. 4v motor, it matters, ask any N/A 4.6 owner, especially the pre 99 guys lol...

the 96-98 Cobra 4V's are a little weak on the low end, but add some gears and it doesn't really matter. they do have alot of top end potential.

I agree. And furthermore, i'd take a 96-98 Cobra 4V motor over any 99+ GT motor, it's a better engine regardless of it's numbers, this is a mathematical certainty....I dont think, if I sat here for eternity, I could ever think of a reason not to.

4V V-8 = teh best, that's how I feel until the V-8 community starts to really adapt the awesome technology all the import 4 cyl companies are using. It is not hard, and not very expensive to have a small, 4-5 liter V-8 produce double what alot of our cars do stock.

If you're wanting a driver, then stick with the '99-up 2V car. Aside from being newer, they're cheaper and will run nearly door to door with the '96-'98 Cobra's in stock trim.

If you're wanting willing to sink the money into mods that will really reward you with the benefit of their gians, and like the idea of driving something that not many people have, then get the '96-'98 Cobra.

The 98 Cobra's are great cars with solid axles. The only issue is the 3:27 gears, change them out with 4:10+ and they become a whole new car. There's much more upside in the 4v motor.

Yes being a past owner of a 02 GT I was aware of that. The Cobra doesn't have the 3650 tranny and the tranny with the 3:27's along with the higher Red Line cuts low end performance a lot.

Just like the new GT500 here which is geared wrong for 1/4 mile times. A set of gears and tires for traction is all it needed.

I think i'm probablly going to be looking for a 98 cobra, because i've always loved the cobras . The only thing that's kinda holding me back is the looks between the 99+ and 98 i've kinda grown attached to the 99+ body style, but it's not a big enough argument to persuade me lol. it's unique!!

Over your standard '94-'98 bodystyle, I agree. But that Cobra specific front vallance and hood just set the Snake right off. Waaaaay sexier than a '99-'04 GT IMO.

Depending on what you're lookin to spend it seems some Machs are becoming more and more affordable. Gears, tires, exhaust, shifter = one hell of a ride, or shoot just a couple bolt ons and it's fun as hell.

A funny fact that I seem to remember (and correct me if I'm wrong) you can get an InterCooled SuperCharger from Kenne Bell with up to a 14psi pulley for a '99+ 2v GT but for the 4v '98 Cobra you can only get a non-intercooled Kenne Bell SuperCharger with restrictions of a 6psi pulley (cause no intercooler). I would think that those details even out the playing field. Don't ask me why this is but I'm sure I read this somewhere. Correct me on this topic if need.
