Definatly get guideplates...I would say it is pretty much a must...especially under high rpm conditions the roller rocker could slip off the stem off onto the spring or some place it don't need to be...and the end result could make your wallet a bit smaller

Get guideplates...my AFR's came with them on them from Ed...

I believe he is referring to the opening on the guideplates...yeah and run the hardened pushrods because most of the time you will have some that rub against the guideplates...some of mine are doing that but I have tore it down twice (removed valve covers) and the pushrods look brand new...no wear...

Pushrods are usually measured for our cars in the 6in and above category (6.1/6.250/etc...)

Good Luck with it...adjusting the guideplates is kind of a nuisance but you need to do it right the first time...

Yep...adjusting the guideplates...

Keep the studs loose (that bolt down the guideplates) and set up your valvetrain and move the guideplates (until they are against the pushrods) that way the rocker/pushrod won't move around...and your "roller" on the rocker won't become off center of the valve stem...

Basically in short...the guideplates need to be positioned where it keeps the roller and the valve stem centered together...you can tap them left and right to get it where it makes the roller center on the valve stem...

You do not want your roller rocker to come off the valve stem...it is not good...so if it is centered then the chances are greatly reduced rather than there being 50% contact between them or it hanging off the edge of the stem...all because you just "slapped" them on...That is why they make guideplates to guide the valvetrain

Bolt them down real snug to 60ft lbs (the studs)...
