H/C/I, keeping it all Ford

So I plan on doing a HCI combo over the next year and I think I want to go all Ford, I am not really looking to go budget or anything although that would be a plus. I just like the thought of an all ford motor. Will I just be screwing myself? I want to get up around 300 but its not that big of deal to me, all street car. I would have no problem paying for all the porting I would need on everything.

I can see the cam being a weak link in this setup but could a letter cam make good power with a GT40 setup? I think I read somewhere that you could stick with stock injectors and fuel pump if you stayed with the GT40 stuff, is this true or would it just hold you back in the tuning area. Like I said I am not in this for the budget I just want to keep it Ford so if it is better to upgrade the fuel system I would not have a problem with that.

Anybody have any good reads on these setups? I have read a few but they always turn into an aluminum vs iron heads debate.

if i were going all ford, id go:

X heads or turbo swirls
Cobra intake ported
F cam

id go 24# and a 255 lph pump with adj reg. though for tuning purposes. i cant say youd quite get 300hp out of it to the wheels though
 
May I ask why? There isnt really a iron vs aluminum debate, irons are for budget, aluminum is the best way to go, you decide in the end. I dont really see the point in staying all "ford" parts. I was using all "ford" parts, bcam, gt40 heads, explorer intake, I had never been so happy as when I got trickflow intake and cam. You are repping ford just by driving a mustang, ford parts are good for budget, but there are other stuff that is far superior.
 
M-6250-E303, M-6049-X306, M-6564-B351 with a GT-40 intake, long tubes, CAI bigger MAF and TB will generate around 350 BHP and be very streetable. The problem is I don't thinbk Ford makes any fuel injected intake manifolds anymore so you may have to look for a used one.

I agree. If you don't have a budget, save yourself the frustration and get better heads.
 
I just checked out some of the alum. heads FRPP has to offer and I see they have some pretty pricey stuff so I guess if I were to go alum. I would probably go aftermarket.

On another note is there a good write up on all the stuff you need to do a top end swap? Kinda like a grocery list of sorts? This will be my first trip down this road so I would like to get everything in one spot before I start.

I guess it will all depend on my budget when I start this project. I just saw a set of ported GT40 heads with a list of upgrades for 450 on craigslist, but I think I saw a set of Trick Flow TW for 675 on ebay so I guess it would make sense to just go aftermarket.

I dont plan on starting this until next winter but I would like to figure out my setup ahead of time so I can start saving and picking up things as I go. My main goal is street power and torque so I dont care too much if I get to exactly 300 but the closer the better I suppose.
 
If you go for the cobra intake concider a explorer instead. The new cobras are made in china. I just bought a very clean explorer intake to run temporarly for $150.00. My combo at the moment is gt40x, f303,and explorer intake. Drives/idles good and feels strong. Could do better with a different cam, but mine is an f303 because I run a turbo. I am not running it right now, breaking in my new motor and clutch before I give it hell. I will be running a Downs box intake on the turbo set up. My motor is the bossx302b cratemotor came with a b303 in it. Ford say its 345 at the fw that way?
 
Explorer intake + Gt40P heads is a perfectly fine combo. You can run an E303 with it, but i'd seriously consider another camshaft.

Plenty of guys run the P's with a GT40 style upper and make 300-325 crank HP with the setup. Cheap, easily obtainable and makes a fairly torquey fun street combo.

I need to do some more reading because I have never done this before. It all seems pretty straight forward exept the cam. And I am a little confused about the pushrods and the valve train and what all comes on the heads and what needs to be replaced and what needs to be put on. Actually if anyone knows of a good read about heads and push rods and cams let me know.

It's not that difficult if you have some mechanical qualities. Check out the install guide I have on my site. It's not too detailed but I assume you're not a beginner

Thanks for the read, I am not a complete beginner and I know my way around a car. I think I will be alright between researching online and you guys. I just never had anyone show me first hand, kinda puts me at a disadvantage but I am sure a lot of guys on here are self tought. I am only 27 so I have some years to learn.
