hey im kinda new over here, and ive been wanted to upgrade my exhaust. it already has a Borla cat-back but im thinking about long tube headers and a H or X pipe (cat less). but i dont know wht to get H or X, ive heard the X pipes can sound kinda raspy and have a higher pitched sound, and ive heard the H pipes sound deep kinda like stock. so im thinking going with a H pipe, but your opinions would be great. also what do you guys think about Long tube headers? i was thinking of going with BBK for both, but i heard they make crappy mid pipes (H or X) but they make good headers, so if you could help me out on that too that would be great.

Thanks,
Sean A

I prefer the H-pipe because of the sound.

Agreed, but I prefer a Prochamber over the H, but I must say, the Dr Gas X pipes sounds outrageously awesome.

I went with an h pipe, but i havent really heard an x in person. I have read that the h keeps a deeper tone than the x but that the x may be better as far as performance goes.

does anybody know how much more power an X will really give you over a H pipe? i mean if its a couple Hp then who cares, but if its something over 10 then we should re consider. also wht exactly is a prochamber? is there benifits to it over a H or X? one more question i have is i was told buy somebody not to get a BBk H or X because they are not made well and dont sound good. so them that leads me to ask which compandy do i use? Magnaflow? mac? Dr gas?...

My Magnaflow Catted X doesn't sound raspy at all, it's a little higher pitched then the traditional H but I still get a nice rumble unlike other X pipes. I always thought X pipe with straight through mufflers and H pipes with chambered mufflers but I've heard mixed and matched combos and they can sound good too. Unless you're pushing some serious horsepower then the hp difference aren't that big but supposedly Xs make a decent amount more power then H pipes on high horsepower setups. Don't most aftermarket tuners use X pipes for that very reason Just do your research and you should be fine.

Both H and X sound deep on a stang ...any midpipe will sound good on a stang ....the X just sounds smoother than an H ...H has more of the classic sound, while X sounds faster/high reving ...and as long as you stay away from the bassani x design, it won't sound raspy, it will sound badass and plenty deep ...i prefer the sound of X over the H, and thats why I switched ...all opinions though

If you wanna be safe ...get Dr. Gas ...you won't be dissappointed ...I think flowtech has a similar design too but not sure if its offered in the shorty style ...Others such as mustangtuning, slp, and magnaflow all have a similar X junction to dr gas, but the X is located farther back in the system, and I don't know which ones offer a shorty ...But, of the brands I mentioned, get whatever will fit with your headers ..they are all good designs

I went with Bassani on this one and never looked back. Its got that nice throaty sound to it. I also put stage 2 flows (cops love me). I set alarms off all the time. I put the O/R x-pipe on with stock mufflers and i really couldn't tell the difference. So i went back and had them throw on flowmasters and did that ever wake up my car. I went from 14.3 bone stock, to 13.9. I get alot of thumbs up.

Id go with a Dr. Gas... i mean all these people can't possibly be wrong, i've heard nothing but praises about it. The UPR and MustangTuning X-Pipes are also top-notch and much cheaper. Not sure if they make them for long-tubes though.

I had the Dr. Gas on my car and it just was not for me. I am back with the MAC o/r H-pipe and the MAC flowpath mufflers. The Dr. Gas sounded good but it was too clean sounding. I am actually selling mine in the classifieds forum as we speak. So opinion is the H-pipe. More traditional.

hooker supercomps are phenominal LT headers, as are SLP's. I like the X better just becuase it flows better. Sound will come down a lot on mufflers, midpipe helps, but mufflers really gives it that glasspack sound, deep roar, rumble, and ect. BBK isnt my cup of tea, but I know a lot of people who use them and like em.
