OK since i went to the track and my car started knocking, i've babied the car and its been perfectly fine, no knocks at all.

But today i was just cruising and then i hear something, i am like "NOOOO!!!!"

It didnt progress into the KNOCK! like it has before. I babied her then it stopped. This time i have guages to help me. My temp is perfectly fine, so i didnt overheat, my oil pressure is perfectly fine too.

Only thing that has changed to the motor is an oil change, i went from 20w50 +some additive to 10w40 with lucas.

Now i believe it was piston slap. But if the cars temp was perfectly fine and normal, how could it slap more if nothing changed, see what i mean??

Oil pressure is fine, my car has really good oil pressure, its like 3/4 up on the guage.

Nothing about the car changed when i started hearing it. but what was strange was when i heard it, everytime i hit a bump or something in the road. I mean something enough to make the car move, I would hear something from the engine bay move, like something is loose.

I am confused so if you guys have any ideas please help me out.

Yeah, but it never did that loose sound thing before. Here is a wild shot in the wind. But first a question, how much space is there from the bottom of the fan and shroud?? What if my mounts are giving out and the fan is hitting the shroud?? Becuase there is BARELY any space from the fan to the bottom shroud, this is just the car sitting there. The fan blades are scuffed and roughed up on the ends of the blades.
My dad thinks that they hada motor mount problems but then fixed it. But then again under throttle the engine torques and moves up. SO i dont know.

What about the timing chain??? As far as a i know this motor hasnt been torn down too far. At least it doesnt look like it.

Sounds more from the motor. I talked to my dad, he got back from being out of town. He said it may be the brake pads ( changed rotors and pads the other day) We didnt use any of that goo that they sell you with the pads.

I was like "eeh" i didnt think so, i listened to it more and i dont think its from the brakes....

What could it be in the tranny???

check the motor mounts again. my fan was all chewed up because the previous owner drove the car for who knows how long with busted mounts. the gap at the bottom of the shroud should be the same at the top of the shroud

also when my motor mounts were busted my sway bar would hit the front plug on the oil pan and it made a knocking noise when i went over a bump

There should be adequit (sp) clearance from the fan blade to the shroud area. Is your car an auto or manual? If it is an auto then have someone sit in the drivers seat with the brake to the floor, and e-brake up then brake torque the engine, (put the car in drive and blip the throttle up) stand on the side of the car tho, dont wanna be in front if the car decides to lurch. The engine will torque a bit but shouldn't move to much. If its a manual its a bit harder, you could side step it a bit and see if it moves otherwise just snap throttle the car and see if the engine moves. As for a timing change, I've never heard a clunk from a timing change being stretched. More of a lashing noise from metal on metal. Not saying it is impossible but I've never personally witnessed one. Get a stethascope and poke around while the car is running. Raise and lower the rpm's slowly and see if it will do it while listening to the valvetrain and whatnot. Just be very careful while doing this. Hope this helps a bit.

my car is an auto
There is plenty of space up on top of the shroud, but on bottom they are almost touching....

Here is a wild shot....

Say my motor mounts are weak, before i hear the sound, i was driving down some ****TY roads, bumps and holes everywhere. Maybe i hit so many or something it knocked something out of place and caused the fan to start hitting......

I think my knock and this loose sound are two diff problems, the loose sound just happened to show up when it starts making noises. I DONT KNOW MY CAR HAS BEEN DOING ALL SORTS OF **** LATELY I FEAR IT WILL NEVER SELL.

I will never get the mustang i really wanted from day 1... :( a 5 speed

But if its motor mount related, how hard is it to change them??

GUYS we found the problem....
It was a sway bar bushing bracket on the left side, it broke and made the noise.

We took it off and my dad welded it back, sound is gone and the front end seems quieter also....
