Hello Crew,

I am having some starting probelms... It seems that when I go to start my car, it has a hard time starting. It will turn over real good, and seem like it wants to start and then die. When I go to restart it, sometimes I also hear a backfire. Once it is started, it runs prefectly. Seem like it might be some fuel issue......Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Dale

What's up Dale, I just moved here to Florida from New Braunfels. Got your car tuned by Mr. Mike huh? LOL, jusk kidding Mike is a great guy and one of the most knowledgable out there. I knew Mike when he first opened up Texas Jam over there in that little 1 bay shop over on Perrin Beitel.

Anyway, have you scanned the car to look for any codes? Have you checked things like fuel pressure, plugs, vacuum leaks?

Hey Kevin, what's up man. What in the world took you to Florida anyway. That is a long way from home... Anyway, I have not done any of the things that you have mentioned because I wanted to get some input from the forum first, so as to not go into this blind... I have never used Mike, but the previous owner of my Saleen had it tuned there. He actually has a new shop right of of Judson Rd., right by Jordan Collision Center. I hear it is a pretty nice shop.... Any of you have any thoughts on this probelm, please chime in...

Dale

The first thing I would do is get it on a scanner. Then if you do have codes, you you know where to start looking. For instance, sometimes when a motor is difficult to start but then will eventually start and then run fine is an indicator of lazy O2 sensors. There are dozens of O2 sensor specific codes that would point you in the right direction.

Another example would be your ECT(engine coolant temp) sensor. If that sensor were malfunctioning it could severely throw off your fuel trims upon startup.

If it were a fuel related issue, chances are you would experience problems at part throttle and WOT as well.

Checking for codes may help to determine whether or not you may have a vacuum leak as well.

Thanks for the starting point Kevin. I sure appreciate it.. I dont know how active you were in SA, because you may have seen my car before. It belonged to Luis before he traded it for an 03 Cobra. He is an active member in San Antonio chapter of www.UnitedStangs.com. Take care...Dale

My car used to start like crap. The (stock) battery tested fine and everything but i got a new one and its been fine ever since. Maybe not enough cold cranking amps? It would turn over fine just wouldnt start.

I spent a lot of time in San Antonio. I heard alot about the United Stangs stuff. Mike Clark and Angel talked about it sometimes. Most of the stuff we did was with the LSx cars, but we did Ford stuff as well. Last time I saw Murillo and Chip out at San Antonio Raceway they were both a "little" heavier!
