Just wondering if any one has done it and did you take out the diff or drop the sub-frame support since it is right in front of the diff cover. They want $310 labor to do the job. 5 hrs labor.
I paid $225 for my gear install earlier this year...5 hours seems awfully long for a gear install, should only take about an hour and a half if they know what they are doing...
When I changed mine I dropped the whole subframe. You don't have to do it this way but it wasn't that hard. The only reason is that I put subframe bushings and narrowed the rear brackets for 10.5" rims. Either way you have to do about the same amount of work.
If you have never done it before, don't do it. even if you think that oh it can't be that hard, it is easy to mess up something small, and end up with a big problem. vibrations included. It is pretty straight forward, but when your looking at ten different shims, and trying to figure out which one to use???? find a buddy who has done several of them, or pay the extra cash. just my 2 cents. but good luck
The recent Mustang Enthusiast magazine had a step by step article on how to do this. They made it sound easy enough the way the wrote it, but it definately scared me away from trying it.
I have my gears ready to go in and as much as I want to learn how to do it, I figured i would be better off (and my car) having someone else do it, who has already done it before.
By the way, dont be jealous- $100 for gear install from this guy who works at the Ford shop (i dunno if thats a good or bad thing?)
