Im starting to hate the Cheap Shaker 500, It keeps on skipping and stopping for no reason, I would like to know what can I do to fix this problem, it started 4 days after I bought the car, now I notice it a lot an I have to switch to the radio which I hate, I love listening to CDs. I had my car for 15 days only if I take it to the dealer to be replaced would that help or will they just replace it with a different unit with the same problems.

I know there is a lot of shaker threads but some are old, some are not clear etc…

I have a B unit by the way, if thats any help.

Does the CDs brand make a diffrence in play back (cheap CDs vs. Branded CDs)

Sounds (no pun intended) like you are going to have the Shaker B replaced. I have the Shaker A with the same problems and have been waiting for replacement. Many forum members have had Shaker A replaced with B and it works fine.

I wonder if there are more then one supplier of the shaker 500 systems to Ford?? I ponder this question because my GT with a Shaker 500 built 24 June has had no issues at all… I picked it up 3 weeks ago,,,and have 2340 miles on it now.. every one of those miles with the CD player running…..No skips, no stops.. Home burnt CD’s as well as OEM ones.

My A unit was replaced with a B unit. No problems yet. Be aware, though, that taking the Shaker out is a problem. My dealer scratched my dash and my emergency brake handle. They are being replaced. The handle has been replaced twice now and was scratched both times. They apparently are a pain in the rear to replace.

I don't have my Mustang yet, so I haven't experienced the problem. But I know on my Honda company cars that my home-made CDs do not work well. After the unit warms up, the skipping gets very bad. Store-bought CDs are not a problem. Just wondering what you guys are using in your Shaker 500s when you are having a problem.

Doesn't matter if it's home made or store bought. Still, on occasion, reads "bad disk" and skips atleast 2 - 4 times per cd.

Mine is notorious for skipping the last 5 seconds or so of each track, but not on every cd..maybe 50% of them, whether store bought or not. Not sure if I have an A or B, haven't checked yet. I haven't taken it in, partially because of the horror stories I've read about replacement units not working, interiors getting messed up, etc.

My pony was built on 5 April 05. Not sure if I have the A or the B. I have had a few instances of skipping, but just a few. Haven't had it happen for quite some time, though, been months.

Mine was also built April 5th, I guess their from the same litter... no wait, horses aren't born in litters... anyway, I've got the B unit of the Skipper 1000 and it skips regularly on home burnt CDs, and cuts the ends off of songs on store bought CDs.
I've been waiting to see how it all plays out, but I figure in the next several months I'll take my chances and have it replaced.

My shaker 500 is starting to play up, skipping, cutting ends & some beginnings off tracks. I'm going to check to make sure it's not just a scratched CD but it looked ok when I put it in & literally came out of the wrapper into the shaker.
My car was made 26 May '05, how can I tell if it's an A or a B?

I also have a "B" version, but mine is a 1000. No problems at all with mine. The head-unit that I put in my ranger, which also played MP3s, was very picky about the MP3 disks it played. I got use to using high quality music CD's burned at a slower rate (12X). All the CDs I use to play in the Ranger, and all the new ones I have made play fine, even colored CDs. For reference, my car was built mid May.
