Have a couple questions...Engine builders come in

My DSS motor needs a new crank and bearings. I have everything torn down already. I've pretty much decided I'm gonna fix it myself using a new Ford crankshaft. Here's my questions:

1: What is the spec for bearing oil clearance? I believe it's .002, but I want to be sure

2: I have stock rods with ARP rod studs. Anyone know what the torque spec on these?

3: I'm replacing my rings, and I'm just going to hone the cylinders, as they look pretty good. How fine of a hone should I finish the bores with? I have medium 220 grit and fine 400 grit stones. I want to be sure I have good ring seal obviously

4: Oil pick-up to pan clearance, I believe it's 3/8"?

The rule of thumb on bearings is .001" per 1" of journal, the stock main is 2.249", rod is 2.123". How are you checking clearances, dial bore gauge and mics?
The clearances really depend on how high you are reving it and the EXACT combo. What oil pump are you using?

ARP Rod bolts, depends on which bolt you have..

What type of ring are you using? Are you using a ball or a flat 3 stone hone?

3/8" will be fine on the pan

Hey Rick, I was hoping you would chime in.

My car is pretty much a street car, won't rev past 6200 or so.

I'm gonna use a standard volume melling pump this time, along with my Moroso 7 qt pan.

Rod studs are whichever comes with the DSS base bullet. Probably the cheapest ones.

I plan on using a Moly ring. Any recommendations? Also I'm using a 3-stone hone.

Also, I'm trying to decide between Federal Mogul Tri-Metal bearings and Clevite 77?

Oh, I was planning on using Plastiguage to check clearences. I'm gonna use a new, production 5.0L crank from Ford Racing. Theoretically if I use it with standard bearings my clearances should be OK I'm hoping?

It should be measured to make sure it is round, straight and doesn't have any taper. Just because it is new means nothing, you would think it mattered.

Plastic guage will get you close, but a dial bore gauge and mi's is the accurate way to do it.

Use a P series bearing from Clevite, Speed-Pro makes a decent ring, so does Total Seal, and Pefect Circle (Performance Brand Div from Clevite) Follow the honing directions from what evcer ing you use, they all can be a little different. Get a standard tension oil ring.

Thanks for your help Rick. Should I stick with a standard Moly ring, or would Plasma-Moly be better? I'm not sure what the pros-cons are for both. It's for use with a blower if it matters
