I bought the ones I posted.. I don't need the washers for 1/2 holes. The descriptions look the same other than that

Not sure why I posted that last night. Probably the beer talking. Oh well. Here's a "copper" joke: little Johnny gets a brand new bike for Christmas. He's so excited he takes it out for a ride. As he crosses the road a local cop rides over to him on a horse. The officer stops Johnny and tells him "well son I see you must have gotten a new bicycle from Santa " Johnny replies"I sure did!" Cop says"well I also see that Santa forgot to put reflectors on your bike and I'm going to have to write Santa a ticket so you'll have to take this back home and give it to your dad so he can give it to Santa. " johnny looks at the cop and asks" well I see Santa must have given you a horse for Christmas" the cop plays along and says"he sure did" Johnny replies "well I think you should send it back because it's defective. He shouldn't have put the D*ck on top"!
Now that's a bad joke but I actually laughed when my 10 year old "niece"(of all people) told me this with a whispered precursor (I heard a dirty joke at school) the situation cracked me up.

I was just getting ready to buy a set of valve springs and saw a spring shim kit as an option to add. Are extra shims added to increase pressure on the spring? With a gt40 setup are the shims necessary?

I know it's kind of late so I'l try and get my thoughts together. First, the springs, retainers and locks, need to be a matched set and for the cam design you are using. The reason IMO to use shims is to achieve the proper spring height. You can use shims to increase the pressure but it will also reduce the amount of travel in the spring which can lead to binding sooner.. I think on a gt40 you are around 120 ish on the pressure for a mild cam.
TFS sells a complete kit that I used on my old GT40 heads that had everything needed.

I bought the gt40 kit from Alex's parts. Up to .580 lift and the duration range was in the limits for tfs1 camI know it's kind of late so I'l try and get my thoughts together. I bought the 9333pt1 gaskets... Dumb question.. Is there a right and left or just a front? When I put them on I only saw them marked for front. The blue lines on the gasket were only on 1 side. I don't remember ever having a right or left before, but I figured before I put it all back together I better check.

Are there no instructions? Find out which way the blue points (up or down) and then there is only way one to go from there, front faces the front.

No difference in left or right side. As stated READ THE DIRECTIONS Make sure you use new head dowels
Here's a good website on how to install them

The instructions say front is front, the instructions were on the backside of the sheet. Must have been in a hurry when looking at the paper. Everything should be ok the way I have it

What is the reasoning on the new head dowels? It's not like they are worn out, I never did this on any head replacement unless I lost them.No difference in left or right side. As stated READ THE DIRECTIONS Make sure you use new head dowels

You are correct. You can reuse the stock ones as long as they are not damaged. I always use new ones regardless. They are cheap insurance for a newb that may not know better.
