Hi first time posting. I'm caught in a dilemma. I'm 16 in high school and I have a 1989 mustang gt, 139k or so miles and just recently the car stopped running in a cloud of white smoke. Been told by many its the head gasket and I'm caught in a hard decision. I work, have high school, have college classes, and sports. I am mechanically inclined beyond the average 11 grader and have the help of a 20 year ford mechanic as my shop teacher at hs. I want some advice on what to do. If I fix the head gasket myself it would be cheap but I physically do not have time for a time form a job like that, taking it to a shop would cost to much, but buying a new engine would also take time. I really love this car but its been a hassle to keep alive and it just had to blow at the worst time. I can look for another car because I want to experience other genres or car culture (turboes, fwd, awd, trucks, etc) but I really do enjoy this car. I'm just conflicted with pros and cons to all options and I'm stuck driving my moms big a** handicap van that's bigger than most lifted trucks on the road. Would like to hear any feedback. Thanks!
