Head gasket suggestions

If you were able to use a stock-style roller lifter (not a link-bar lifter), dog bones and spider, then the block was a roller originally.

I might have a better picture of this at home, but can you tell from this shot?

Looks like spider and dog bones... Roller I'm guessing.

SoCalCruising nailed it! Got home, jacked her up and cralled under and sure enough, the hole is wide open. Can't believe I missed this when I was sealing up the engine on the stand! Definately putting this into the experience vault for future swaps. I found the other thread on how to plug. I think I will go to my local machine shop and see of they have some type of press fit plug. I really don't want to cut threads now that the engine is in the car. Pretty tight fit under there with long tubes and power steering. Will have to drop the header to get enough access to this spot. So glad StangNet is available to help with stuff like this. My mechanic was convinced it was a head gasket, but i just couldn't see how it could be, so I waited. Glad I did now :nice:
 
If you have access to a pin guage set, use that to find the diameter of the hole (or use another method, if you know one). Then you can have a brass plug made, like I did. Make the plug diameter just undersized and put two O-rings on it (in recessed grooves), sized properly for the hole. Put some silicone on the plug and drop it in. The plug should have a lip on it (kinda like a regular bolt) so it can't fall into the crankcase. Leave it to set for 24 hours and you're done. It can be done without removing the header, probably. It sounds complicated, but if your shop has access to a lathe, it's a snap.
 
I picked up a couple of small freeze plugs form the machine shop, one of them should fit. I am definately going to have to remove the header to access this thing... Should be straight forward, but I guess we'll see.
