On the 5.0 heads .. with emissions (86 heads as well as e7te-pa) what is the perfectly round - circular hold on the intake manifold side of the head that is in the middle of the head. An emissions port? It doesnt go all the wall through -- only about eh 1.5 inches in then stops.. what is this? Is it important? When i swap out the FI manifold for the carb setup -- 1/3 of this hole shows above the carb manifold.. all other ports/holes line up.

Any ideas/answers? I really hope that this thign doesnt mean/do anything so that I can just forget about it and sleep better at night. I have flipped through the manuals and cant find anything -- i guess im blind.

Regards,
Gered

It's the EGR port to the intake. That port sends hot exhaust through the lower, through the upper, to the EGR plate, to the EGR valve. Yea, not a "smart design".

For 94+, Ford took the exhaust from the header and sent that to the EGR plate. That way, the hot exhaust doesn't mega heat the whole intake.

Interesting cause it doesn't even go anywhere -- so in short can I just install it with half of it showing or is it going to cause an exhaust leak -- how do I go about this?

i believe your referring to the "thermactor" plug it's threadedinside and outside right?

it's a threaded insert to mount accessories.

on the back of the heads, if you removed the "y" pipe for the smog pump...thats what you need to plug the holes.

if it was 1/2 way and sealed up..it's be fine...just a plug to keep the gasses in
