I just through in my new BBK shorty headers. I got a leak on the passenger side right above the rear spark plug. I could feel the air with my hand. I took it off and checked it and I see nothing wrong. What would be the best thing to do now?
Pull the header off and put some RTV ultra copper silicone around the exhaust ports on the header gasket, let it tack up for 15 minutes then reinstall the header and hope for the best. I've used this method with great results.
Go buy a set of stage 8 header bolts aswell. I was constantly fixing header leaks because the bolts loosened off. Now with these bolts and there locks I haven't had to do one in years.
I looked at alot of reviews before I bought these and I thought it was going to be smooth and easy, but I guess not. Is it safe to drive to a mechanic?
thanx for everything guyz. problem solved. The leak was between the header and h-pipe. A muffler shop quickly solved the problem by banging the flange up with a long screwdriver and a hammer and putting washers on the studs. Its actually driveable now but the leak is really, really minor and he said that it will seal with the heat as I drive more. Sounds more aggressive now.
