I have been considering installing headers but my shop has told me
for the cost and the difficulty of removing the stock headers, the
gains are just not worth it. I have had a number of exhaust installers
tell me this, and that is thier business. Does anyone have solid proof
that they are worth the install. I can see maybe if you are supercharged
or have major mods, but for the normal bolt-on's, is it worth it?

like you said, for supercharging, they're a good idea. other than that i think you'll see some gains but nothing fantastic.

Good gains, but you need to find somewhere that will install them for a decent price (I had quotes of around 700 from respectable Mustang shops). If headers and labor are gonna run me $1000+, then I personally think I'm better off saving for a blower. If you can get a cheap install, then theyre a great mod.

Man I think they might, I said might, try to rape you with this prices. If you have a free weekend do it yourself (if you know what your doing), call the buddies so they can (at least in my case) cheer you up, and then tell you "I told you so!!" Friendship is worthless, I mean Priceless.

They are not as difficult as people say they are.. all you need are the "right tools" You will love your tools much more by the time you're finished.. I know I did

My local shop wants $1400 for headers and a midpipe installed. Call me crazy but I think that's a bit high.

i was quoted 1k by a place. i took that estimate to mean that they really didn't care too much about doing it. same thing with a 500 buck gear install. i mean instead of saying, we don't really want to do it, they will quote u a ridiculous price on something just to get rid of u.

I went to a muffler shop and they say that they won't install headers for me.. so I install them myself.. they quoted the mid-pipe and cat-back for around 120 bucks..

8 hours? try 3 days on 2 jacks stand + 2 ramps + simple hand tools + 2 guys + 40 degrees weather. Good times

It's either

Spend time for experience + cramps all over or Spend $$$ for time and zero cramps
