Headers Question

I am considering headers for my car, depending on cost and quality that I can get for what I want to spend. The only headers I have heard of are Hooker Headers. I have not really looked into them so I am not sure if they are good/bad/? Any susggestions on this would be great! Thanks!

if you can get them, long tube headers are what you want. if the emissions laws prohibit them, mid-lengths are your next best bet, after that, shorty headers come into play. although some shorty headers, like JBA's do show some gain, far and away your best gains with any types will be with long tubes. if you're planning on adding a blower, headers are a good mod because they free up some horsepower.

get ready to poke a hole in your wallet.

Like 1990StangLx said, get Long Tube if you can. It will run you around $400-$500

If you get Long tube headers, you will need a short X/H pipe to go with it. Which will run you around $150+ for off-road (no cats) or $350+ for catted version

Expect the installation to be around $400+ if you're not installing them yourself.

BBK is what I have, I'm happy with them. There are other good brands out there as well (MAC, Hookers, etc..)

Thanks for the advice, I currently have a Magnaflow magnapack exhaust with a catted x-pipe, which I have not had installed yet. Would long tubes work with this set-up?

Sorry to say but no your X-pipe will not fit with the long tubes

You either have it cut or stay with them for a while until you get bored with it and change the whole pipe.

Hmm now I am not sure wheather or not I should return the mid pipe- which cost $400 and get headers or just say heck with it! Which would I get the most gains out of?

If you're really serious about going all out and getting LT like me then I would return the pipes and purchase a LT with shorty mid pipe.

I gained 25.x rwhp and 31.x rwtq over stock exhaust with just new exhaust alone.. I have the graph to prove as well.

Like I said, if you want to go through with this then do it. Those headers will make you love your car a lot more

Yeah L/T's are the way to go if you want noticable Improvement I have BBK L/T's and BBK hi flow catted mid with Flowmaster 40's. It sounds nice at idle, not to loud so I dont draw unwanted attention, but when I get on it, all hell can break loose .
Your best bet would be to sell the mid pipe, it will be to much trouble to cut the piece to fit, not to mention the extra $$$ you will spend to get it done. Price wise, my L/T's were ~$500, Mid pipe was $360, you will need 02 extendors which are $35. I also got a clutch put in ~$360 as well, and the labor was $450. Total for me was right at ~$1700. For just L/T's, and a midpipe install you are probably looking for ~$1200.
Either way its a huge chunck of change

hookers are good but dont offer a bolt up catted x pipe , if you want cats go with bbks .

I was told not to bother with the long tubes unless you have your engine out. They do not offer any horspower gains added to your x-pipe and cat back on the dyno. Money to horsepower ratio they are You should save your money for other mods that will give you more horsepower or traction.
