Yeah, I've done a couple appearance updates to my car in the past couple weeks. I'll be taking some pictures this weekend...once I actually wash the car. As far as the tint goes...It's just VHT niteshades. The trick is that you must follow it up with 2-3 clear coats. Hopefully I'll post a thread this weekend with pictures of the new mods.
i say tint them, but not too dark.
i've had the copletely pitch black at like 2%....and then now with like 15% and i have to keep my eyes out for cops and always worry about riding without the tail lights on because they look close to pitch black when the sun isnt shining.
they do look very good on cars that have other black parts on them ex: black rims or dark black tint. depends on the color i guess.
That looks killer. Hopefully mines look as good on my True Blue. I messed up the DIY tint job though and in frustration just ordered the vinyl smoked overlays from StangMods. I get them in tomorrow. We'll see how it goes.
lol that was actually my 3rd attempt at the VHT niteshades method because its so permanent and i kept messing up and having to hand sand it all back down.
total time speant making the taillights look like that: 10+ hours.... NOT WORTH IT. i should have listened to everyone and bought the overlays...
i really recommend everyone to go with the vinyl overlay method. They look better, are easier to apply and end up saving you so much time (and frustration)
What problems did you run into? I had two issues with using this stuff...the paint will run if you apply too much at a time...and you can't "top off" the lenses with a light coat becuase it will come out hazzy. You have to do a full coat or nothing. Any hazzy spots that did develop were cleared up with the clear coat. To anyone who is doing this mod...Using the clear coat is most important step! If you dont, you won't be happy.
Here's what you get with clear coat...I'm sure that someone with more experience could have done an even better job...
