Hey guys,

I'm fairly new here, and I had some questions for you. My mustang is a '94 GT and I'm looking to make some mods to it. I'm a college student, so I'm not up for spending thousands upon thousands of dollars, but I do know you get what you pay for so don't wanna cheap out on it.

I was thinking of doing some heads/intake, but also heard that would be a good time to replace the camshaft and paint a few parts of the engine (since it's apart enyways).

-Is the camshaft a needed replacement?
-will I see much gain for replacing this?
-how much does one cost (low end to high end)?
-Any brand recomendations/products?

-For Heads and Intake:
-What kinda gain do you think I'll see from this?
-Any recomendations on brands/kits?
-What should I expect to put away for these?

As for painting (Powder Coating?) different parts, is this advisable to do it yourself?

Any other suggestions/comments are greatly welcomed...looking for some decent aftermarket parts and a worthwhile performance boost here.

Thanks

camshaft is the mechinal brain in the engine!! if you want more power then a cam is the way to go.. cost?? depending on the grind/power/driveability ect.. 190.00 to 350.00 of course dont forget the + + ...

H/I mods... again there is no combo that works for everyone!! how much hp ISNT the question.. it is where is the car going to be driven>>? the hassel your willing to put up with on the street ?? balh blah...
For a solid running car.. lots of snap off the line.. power for the low 13s high 12s ( sn94-95) still have good MPG and have a nice performance idle.. and NOT cost your 1st years wages.. Thre are a bunch of proven ( ? ) combos... for the cost: Ported Iron heads.. FMS E or B cam ( or the TFS1 and 2 series) Cobra intake ..keep the 19 inj. then add the small stuff that you will need on ANY combo to get the idle issues under control.. and rock!! AS you get MORE experiance and decide you ARE going to NEED the speed.. the slowely up grade on what you have.. however the above combo will hold up to and with 95 % of the N/A combos out there and for half the $$ cool??

Just me............................

Seems for a stock bottom end 302 there's a few parts that you'll commonly see...

(in order cost wise, lowest to highest)

Heads: GT40s, GT40p's, Edelbrock Performer, TF Twisted Wedge, AFR 165.

Intake: Explorer, Cobra, TF Street Heat, Edelbrock Performer, GT40

Cam: FRPP B and F Cams, TF Stage 1, Steeda 19, Anderson Ford cams, and Custom grinds.

I know I'm probably missing some stuff, but here's a thread that has a bunch of our combos listed...

http://forums.stangnet.com/showthread.php?t=334773

And let us know what your budget/goals if you need more help.

Just did a little checking on the graph vs. current number given for AFR and Eddy...on the small valve RPM head (new design)vs the AFR 165 I was very interested on how much better the new Eddy numbers are:
at .500 the RPM's = 245/170
AFR's = 243/185
with a little exhaust work on the Eddy head matching the AFR for couple hundred less should make them a nice head to consider...Just opinion and yes I am a bit biased.

Im in the same boat as you, Im a broke ass college kid about to do my H/C/I. Im not looking for it to be my final job, because a few years down the road Im looking at building a new motor, and thats just not feasible right now so Im doing the budget build thing too. I have not bought a single part new yet. Ive hit up the stangnet and corral.net classifieds and bought all my ****z used, and It will usually work just as well, so that will definitely save you some green. Ill give you a breakdown on whats been done so far.

I bought some home ported E7s non-assembled, but stock valves in another box he gave me, not used since port job, but have 55,000 miles on them total. I paid $300 for these

I bought my Cobra Intake manifold from another guy locally a couple of years ago, he had used it on his 95 cobra that he converted to carb, he gave me the intake and a BBK 70mm TB for $300 total.

I bought a Pro-M 75mm MAF sensor on ebay for $85

I bought some 24# injectors on corral for $80

I bought a steeda 19 cam from Diablostang and gave him $120 I think

I bought BBK aluminum underdrive pulleys on corral for $70

and I got some head bolts and gaskets at Advance Auto Parts for like $170 total or something like that

So thats how much Ive spent and what Im using, and Im probably considered a cheap ass for doing it like this, but hey, im broke.

Hey ... You got what you got to work with in the way of $$$

You'll have a lotta fun with what you are putting together

I had a combo kinda like that on my 95 years ago. It was great for what little money I had in it.

Just gotta keep it all in the correct perspective which it looks like to me you are doing.

You can always build a REAL go faster ...................

when you get outta skool

Go with the trickflow kit if you can for the type of money they want for the kit it is probably the best bang for the buck.
