I have a 89 mustang gt vert. I bought the car about 3 months ago and have figured out most of the problems with the car but one is mind boggling. When i bought the car, the passenger side window would go down but not up, so I pulled apart the motor and seen that the gear was broken. So I replaced it, put it back together ,and still it didnt work going up. The next step that I took was to replace the motor, still didnt work. Then the passenger side switch went bad. When I replaced it, the motor would go up real slow, and if I hit the drivers side switch at the same time the window would go up normal. But hitting the drivers side alone would do nothing. So next was the drivers side switch. Now when using the drivers side switch, the passenger side window goes up and down perfect, but using the passnger side switch the window goes down normal and up real slow. Also it drags the engine rpm down like there is a huge load on the alternator. So what the crap is going on. I understand that a wire is most likely shorted or half broken not allowing enough power to the motor, but I do not know which wire it could be. I suck at the electrical side of a car. And I am thinking that I am going to have to take it to a "real" mechanic. Also the lock/unlock button does not work all of the time, but I think that it might be on a different system. First off; welcome to the board.
Second; I think you already have a good handle on the situation. As far as I'm concerned/ You have two options.
1)You take the car to a shop that specializes in electrical repairs. If you have the wallet for it; it's gonna cost you anywhere from $50-100 per hour until they get it sorted out plus any parts\switches\relays along the way they replace trying to repair it.
2)You buy a Chilton's or Hayes Mustang specific manual at the local auto parts store. Inside you will find pretty darn detailed wiring schematics for the entire car including the power top of 'verts! It's a hassle... I know. My 'vert top took quite some time to trouble shoot & find out the relay under the dash was the problem. it wasn't the motor, lines, wiring, relays in the back, dash switch, a short, etc. You basically are going to need a test light, multimeter, & lots of time... But, you can do a little every time you can make time since it's not a "need" to fix problem.
The choice is yours.....Good luck!

Don't really know, but on my 90 GT the rails in the center of the door that the window rides up and down on had grease that solidified and the window wouldn't go up or down without help. I greased up the rod with silicone grease and the windows now work like new. Maybe you have several problems working against you.

Welcome to the forum! Get yourself another harness from the body to the door and replace it so you can use the window. Then you can pull apart the old one at your leisure and see exactly what's wrong with it. Probably the R/BK wire going to the pass. door switch is broken/shorted along with the PK wire.
You could always hook up a dry shot of zex,,,that b@stard will go up in under 2 seconds

Behind the RH kickpanel is your engine computer. The wiring harness from the door comes in right next to it. There are 2 connectors; a gray 8 pin and a black 4 pin that go to your door. Might also be a gray 2 wire. The wires usually break inside the rubber tube...
I had a problem with my door locks not working as did a friend of mine. Tried new switches and all. Finally someone tipped me off that the most popular culprit of this is broken wires inbetween the door and body of the car where the wires travel through from the door into the car. You have to pull back that cover tho. I pulled it out on both sides and checked the wires and sure enough i had wires that were borken, wires that were cracked. I would definitely check there first and for most. Especially if the switches are working one way but not another. which usually means a short somewhere. Hope this helps
