HELP ASAP Timing gear

I am installing the timing chain and gears and when I set the bottom on the crank, it is going too far in and not seating on the crank key... what am i doing wrong???

I am installing the timing chain and gears and when I set the bottom on the crank, it is going too far in and not seating on the crank key... what am i doing wrong???

I dont see how it could not seat on the keyway and still go too far in
