Help, car hasn't been started.....

what you are calling a cold start is When an engine has been sitting for a time, the internals become dry and need lubrication. in your case i would inspect all fluids, fill if needed...pre-lube or prime the engine without actually firing it up. if you have knowledge of removing the distributor and priming the oil there with a drill and shaft extension to manually operate the oil pump this is the method i would use. i have experience at this method and experience with installing and removing a distributor properly, if you dont have this experience i would not remove the distributor. i would remove the spark plugs while marking wires so they can later be installed properly then Spray a small amount of penetrating oil into the spark plug holes and then turn the starter over for a few(3), 6-10 sec intervals. allow starter to cool approx. 20 mins and repeat. this should lubricate the internals after doing either of these methods i usually listen after turning oil pump or cranking of the starter into the oil fill hole after removing the cap you should be able to hear oil draining into the pan,(ya you can actually hear it). when you hear this you know oil is being circulated properly. reinstall plugs and wires...then i would add some new gas on top of the gas in the tank..6mos old gas is not too bad though as long as its sealed properly with a gas cap unexposed to atmosphere....then i would crank drive a short distance allowing it to reach operating temp....park then change oil...

If you pull the coil wire off the distributor , engine will crank but not run.

The cold start method listed by bill302 is the correct way to do for an engine that has been sitting for a long time. But if you are not fully comfortable with the procedure of pulling the dizzy and priming the oil pump, I would not do it.

Six months is not that long really..

IMO, I would just pull the coil wire so it wont run and crank the engine over a few times until you see oil pressure on the guage. Then recconect the coil wire and fire her up!!
