Hey guys I have a 96gt with a 2004 pi engine. I got in my car after work today and turned the key everything came on but the starter made no noise, nothing. i popped the hood and messed around w/ the battery terminals and finally got it to turn over. I came home and had to move my car after about 2 hours and the same thing, the car wouldnt start. I put new ends on the battery cables and put a new battery in I had in the garage, nothing. I got it up in the air and jumped the starter and it worked. So somewhere between the ignition and the starter i have a problem. Any ideas? Thanx guys, sorry its so long but i just wanted to let you all know what i already tried.

theres a ground on the driver side engine mount, and another wire from that that goes up to the fender around your battery somewhere. you can check those.

at least thats where they are on my 99, I assume it should be the same on 04.

other than that perhaps the starters on the way out. even if it works most of the time don't mean it'll work all the time.

Temporarily connect a jumper wire to the starter so that every time it wont start you can jump the starter manually and that will tell you if its the starter or something wrong somewhere else in the system. This is kind of a cheesy way to trouble shoot but if its an intermittent problem it may be the most convenient solution.

My PATS system was recently preventing me from starting the car like this. I had problems with the PATS system and my chip before, but this was new. Car just acted dead, but tapping the starter or popping the clutch from a roll would get it running. Try turning your key to the on position and waiting for the theft light to shut off before trying to start her. If it starts, it may be the PATS... I'm taking mine to the dealer for new transponder keys $$$

Gar!!

We were on our way home from a 1500-mile trip with our '03 'Stang and it did the same thing! No starter, no click, no theft light, but the instrument panel did light up. This is the first time this has ever happened. We were driving 80-90 for about 4 hours then idled around a bit before I shut it off then, 10 minutes later, no start. I pulled the maxi-fuse for the starter circuit - OK, then I pulled the starter relay to see if I could smell for burning - OK. I put them back in and it started! If I find anything out, I'll post back......
