HELP! Charging problems on my 96GT

I have a 96 GT auto. When I start my car for the first time in the day, everything is fine. But as it warms up and I drive it, the battery/charging meter goes down little by little until it is not charging anymore. I park the car and come back when it is cooled off and start the whole process over again. The battery is only 1 year old, but the alternator has never been replaced. Any ideas? This is really strange to me. Seems the alternator should work or not work and no in between. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

i had the same thing happen to me on a different car once, it was the alt. dying a slow death. get it checked out asap.

My camaro did the same thing. At first i thought it was the batt. so i replaced it and it still did it. As soon as i put the alternator in everything was cool. Sounds like its the alternator, make sure that when you put the alternator in, if you do, that the battery is fully charged otherwise you could cause alternator death. LOL I remember reading about it when i got the new one for my camaro. Good luck man.

I think its $179-$219 for a alternator. You can put it in yourself it is easy.
